I am encountering a persistent and critical issue while processing my Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) data in DSI Studio (Yeh 2025, Hou "侯" version, Feb 18 2026). The problem is specifically related to the visualization of the axial (horizontal) plane.
When I view my data in the coronal plane, the anatomical structures appear normal and as expected. However, upon switching to the axial plane—which is the primary plane required for standard analysis and tractography in the software—the image becomes severely distorted and unusable. Instead of displaying a full, coherent cross-sectional slice of the brain, the axial view renders only a thin, narrow, dark, and artifact-ridden sliver or bar across the screen (as shown in the provided screenshot). This aberrant representation lacks any recognizable anatomical detail.
This issue completely hinders my ability to proceed with the analysis, as the axial view is essential for quality control, region-of-interest (ROI) placement, and interpreting the orientation of white matter tracts. The coronal view being normal suggests the problem is isolated to how the axial slices are being reconstructed or displayed by the software for this particular dataset.
The data was acquired on a Bruker scanner using a standard DTI_EPI sequence (30 directions, b-value=1026.74 s/mm²). The software interface indicates the process is at "Step T2: reconstruction." I have been unable to resolve this through standard navigation or slider adjustments.
I suspect the issue may be related to an error in data import, slice indexing, spatial orientation assignment during reconstruction, or a potential software bug specific to the axial plane rendering for my data. Any guidance on diagnosing and fixing this axial view artifact would be greatly appreciated.
