Dear Frank,

I am writing about an issue creating a database in dsistudio for correlational tractography. I am running the March 27, 2026 Hou version on a Mac (OS Sonoma 14.5, M3 chip). When I attempt to create a database via the GUI, the program provides a warning saying a specific file does not exist when, in fact, the file does exist in the exact folder the database is being created from. I've placed here a screenshot of the error around the existence of a specific file as well as the presence of said file in Finder. Any guidance you could provide on how to move forward would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Could you update DSI Studio to the most recent version and see if it works?

Thank you for raising the issue. My apology that the update does not solve it. I will conduct a code review and see if I can fix it as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Hi Frank,

No problem at all, I really appreciate your quick responses and help! Please do let me know if there are any troubleshooting steps you recommend as I am curious whether this may be a permissions issue with Mac.

Best,
Divya

Hi Divya,

I committed a fix and updated DSI Studio. Could you download the most recent version (dated today), and see if it works?
If it's still not working, could you post the console window's content for me to troubleshoot?
    Thanks again!

Best,
Frank

Hi Frank,

I am seeing this exact issue when creating a database for correlational tractography. I am using the Jun 15 2026 "Hou" version for Ubuntu 22.04.

Hey Frank,

I'm having issues with connectometry database creation too but might have some helpful information for you to troubleshoot.

I have the most recent (June 15 2026) version on my Mac, and the software just crashes if I attempt to create a .dz, no matter how few subs are included. Interestingly, I don't get a crash report when this happens, so I can't send one to you, and I can't send console output due to the crash.

I have two old versions installed on my PC, and I've created databases with those versions before. On the June 20 2025 version, I get the same error Divya and Sean mentioned above (i.e., "" Cannot find whatever.fz"). I then tried on Jan 30 2025 version I have on my PC, and I get an Error that says "The first file is not a valid FIB file".  I created the fibs on the June 15 2026 version on my Mac.

I re-reconstructed the fibs on the June 20 2025 PC version, and the connectometry database was created successfully on the June 20 2025 PC, but the June 15 2026 Mac version still crashed. If I create the fibs and .db on the old June 20 2025 PC version, will those data be okay for analysis, or is there some issue with that software version that would render them unusable (I hope not, cause I just published two papers on data run through that version!! lol)?

Maybe it's a reconstruction issue that makes the files unreadable when creating the database? I get that popup warning about corrupted .sz and .fz files when opening the June 20 2025 version, so maybe it has something to do with whatever fix you applied to correct that bug? Just some thoughts.

PS. I'm working with the same data that Divya originally posted about having issues with above.

Thanks so much!
Hannah

Hi All,

I have updated DSI Studio to fix this bug. Please download it and see if it works.

Also apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

While I have tested the fix using my current data, there may still be issues with older .fib.gz files. If you encounter any remaining problems, please let me know and I will address them right away.

I will also implement a testing routine for this function to ensure its correctness in all future releases.

Best regards,
Frank

Hey! I just tried the updated Mac version, and it still crashes when I try to create the connectometry database. I even tried re-reconstructing the .fz files in the updated version. The sz files were made using an older version... do those need to be regenerated in the updated version too?

Sorry this happened. Is it possible to upload the .fz file you used? (one may be enough).
I will fix it asap.

Thank you! Will I need to re-reconstruct the fz files again?

No, the existing fz should work.

Just tested it on 3 of the existing .fz files, and it didn't crash, but I got this error:

The new build will be ready in 30 min.
Please see if it works for you.

FYI: the created .dz will extract all available metrics in the .fz, including dti_fa, qa, iso, ...etc., whereas the older db. files only have one metric.
Thus there is no need to create multiple db. The new DSI Studio should work on both the new universal db and the old single-metric db.

Hi Frank,

Just tried it out too and it works beautifully! Thank you to both you and Hannah for troubleshooting this!
