What's best practice for dealing with 23.98 footage in 24fps avid project?
If I import the footage as 24fps using the 'ignore frame rate' console command the footage looks great but sync drifts immediately.
If I import the footage in a 23.98 project and bring the bin into the 24fps project the files play fine and sync up fine, however if I multigroup I'm getting errors and there is a timewarp being applied to the clips (green dot on clips).

It is for a feature and it will be graded on davinci and mastered on either Davinci or DS (not 100% sure yet, it depends on how much titling/fx are needed).
I'm worried about blurred frames and sync for the offline/online. Has anyone any experience with this situation?

yes i have, and blended frames are very likely QC fail (not to mention they look crap on a 30foot screen)

i do a frame for a frame, let the sync drift and have the post sup sort sound issues unless it's a huge deal ( and 23.98 to 24 should not be)

then optical flow comes into the mix, i am loveing Mamba for that

explain optical flow/mamba and is this something that only needs to be used if 'it's a huge deal'? 90% of the 23.98 footage will be nonsync (fights, arty shots, etc)
and just to confirm, would you import the 23.98 footage at 24fps using the 'ignore frame rate' console trick.

You have to import picture frame-for-frame and apply pullup to the audio.

The only problem with importing at 24fps is that when I bring my sequence to Davinci it will link to the origional rushes, which are 23.98, leaving the footage considerably out of sync.
Whereas if the footage is offlined at 23.98, then relinked in davinci there would be less issues regarding the slipping of frames. Is this correct?
Or would I be better creating new masters? The footage is HD so I could import at 24fps at the highest quality possible. These shots need a lot of grading too so would this limit my range?
hope that makes sense.

I'd be interested to hear how you get with this. I had an offline which had about a third of the shots at 23.98fps for a 24p programme. The offline seemed fine except that I could see frame blending. The EDL /AAF contained M2 speed changes and I had to online and grade it on Pablo. In the end I had to delete all the speed commands in the EDL with Word and tweak nearly every shot by a frame one way or the other. If you don't have sync to worry about, you should be ok. The Pablo would sometimes ignore the 23.98fps footage when trying to conform. I'm not sure how Resolve would handle that.
