Greetings brain trust...

Suggestions on building a smooth credit roll for a UHD 4k 23.97 show in AE.

I am building a roll that is not very fast, and it's pretty steppy, suggestions on how to smooth it out.
Should I make it even slower.. I have text and images rolling together.
Similar in speed and layout as some of my 720p and 1080p 29.97 projects, but not very smooth.

Thanks...

And I sort of Love /Hate/Fear the AI Reply Craziness of late.

Jim

Typically the choppyness of a credit roll is due to the speed at which you are rolling.

I always tell clients a clean credit roll will tell you how fast it moves.  You can't tell me the credit roll has to be a specific time, and expect buttery smoothness.

I usually run my credit rolls at 3 lines per frame. The more credits they want in the roll, the longer the roll takes.

If you use a service like endcrawl, i think they use the same speed. Im not sure they give you timing options.

Your "speed change" controlls then become font size, and line spacing.

Igor has some great tutorials on building a credit roll in Fusion using this method.

You need to translate Y by line count integer. In other words, your text needs to move up exactly 1, 2, 3, 4... lines per frame. For UHD start with 4 lines and see if that gives you a good speed. There is really no good way to defeat aliasing other than this method. And this is something I think I learned from Sylvain.

Kind of OT, but does anyone know how the crazy offset values in Resolve relate to pixels/lines?

Cheers,
Tony

The XY translation values in the edit page are pixels. The Fusion translation values are generally normalized to the screen size. For example, translating X by 1.0 moves it to the right by the screen width.

Thanks Igor, nothing like a fresh blast of math !!
Got the roll out to 2 minutes and it's a lot smoother, also looks like it takes 20 or so seconds to travel from bottom to off top screen.

Thanks again
Jim
