I've just received some test footage from the Sony PXW-FS7, in 2 formats: MPEG422 50Mbps and XAVCI (both 1080 23.98). It looks terrific.

In Media Composer (8.2), the XAVCI material has an extra track above V1, labelled D1. What's that for? Do I need to keep it visible in the timeline? Not keeping it visible doesn't seem to affect the image at all.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I have been able to find, the D1 track is for metadata that is not really being used right now.  I try to hide it / ignore it as much as possible.

And you did not say anything about all the extra audio tracks you got with nothing in them .......

Yes, I love interviews with eight audio tracks. (click - click - click - click - click - click - click)(disabling the seven I don't need)

D1 would be used for a caption track if you had 1.  You can turn it off in the timeline hamburger button settings.

For tons of footage with all those useless channels you can unlink them...modify to just two channels...and then relink back to the media.  It doesnt delete any of the useless audio but hides it from avid.
