Hey DS friends,

I’ll be getting some 720p (Sony A7S3) camera proxies and will start editing in a 1080 timeline with lots of scaling.

Days later I will need to link to the 4K footage (while preserving all the scaling work I did with the proxies). Is this workflow possible in Premiere?

I have used camera proxies before, but in that case I got the proxies and 4K files at the same time: imported the 4K, linked 4K to proxies, edited (and scaled) the proxies, then toggled to the 4K and all was well. But I can’t see how to start with only proxies and link to 4K later on while preserving all scaling.

Thanks! Rob

Hey Rob,
It might be tough, not having the original camera folder and file structure from the get go.
Meaning, receiving the 4K and proxies all in one, from the camera.
Not sure how the meta data works, or not, when separating them
and then trying to relink them back outside that original structure. It might work, but I’ve never
tried.

If you could get the 4k files first (why are they coming days later?)
you could easily have Premiere create the proxies from the 4k footage and
be all set. You can actually work in Premiere with the footage as its
creating the proxies. Once you are done editing, color grading, adding effects and such,
you just render and Premiere will look at the original 4k files. No replacing needed.
