I am trying to capture a video network stream and save it in a file. I have found a couple of articles on how to do that using VLC, but none of them worked. All of them used the procedure outlined in this previous question: How to record a mp3/m3u stream using VLC?
However, when I attempt to either stream to a file or convert a stream to a file, the only thing I get is an empty .mp4 file. When streaming it directly to the file, VLC instead start displaying the stream locally (despite having this option turned off).
Just a heads up: I am not trying to rip copyrighted material; there is a conference that is streaming it's talks, but the interesting talks take place in times where I can't attend them, so I would like to record them for seeing them the next day.
Wireless Streaming Using AirPlay
The CEN-NSP-1 allows any AirPlay enabled iOS device to connect wirelessly over a Wi-Fi network and stream audio from iTunes (and other AirPlay enabled apps) to your whole-house audio system. Through a Crestron touch screen, you can pause, skip, advance, and repeat the currently playing track while viewing cover art and metadata (song title, artist, album, etc.). Full navigation of the entire iTunes library remains available on the iOS device. Control over the audio system, as well as lighting and other technologies, can even be accessed on the same iOS device by installing the Crestron App.
Multi-Zone Capability
The CEN-NSP-1 is ideally designed for use with multi-zone audio systems like Crestron Sonnex or the C2N-AMP-6X100 [4]. Multiple network stream players can be used together to provide a scalable, modular solution with multiple independently-controllable outputs. Each CEN-NSP-1 provides a single stereo output via unbalanced analog and S/PDIF digital connections.[5,6]
Integrator Friendly Enclosure
The CEN-NSP-1 features the Crestron IFE form factor, a compact "Integrator Friendly Enclosure" design that fits almost anywhere and enables a variety of installation options. Its shape allows multiple network stream players and other IFE compliant devices to be stacked together. Using the included mounting bracket, it can be fastened to any flat surface or snapped onto a standard DIN rail. Rack mount and pole mount kits are also available.[4]
Power over Ethernet
The CEN-NSP-1 communicates with a control system over high-speed Ethernet, and gets its operating power over the same Ethernet connection using PoE technology. To power the CEN-NSP-1, Crestron offers the PWE-4803RU PoE Injector [4], which simply connects in line with the Ethernet cable. Crestron also offers Ethernet switches with built-in PoE (models CEN-SW-POE-5 or CEN-SWPOE-16 [4]), affording a complete high-performance networking solution capable of powering multiple PoE powered devices.

I remember i was use network stream on vlc player inside whonix workstation for watching flash videos online , because adobe flash plugin consider pseudonymous rather anonymous on tbb inside whonix,
i remember that works on whonix workstation and on host to, but last days i try to use it and not work , nor on host ! i try several workaround for days : reinstall vlc , reset to defaults vlc, the last day i download the latest whonix kvm images (clean) * aplyed to the workaround for vlc crash on kvm and nor that works! JDownloader works on whonix workstation for watching flash videos online anonymously but if want to watch a video from the midle to the end for example must wait for downloading , with network stream of vlc player not need to wait for that so its better , but why not work? help please , as that is very important for whonix project, (that need for sites like vimeo, because youtube for example not need adobe flash plugin).
I'm trying to save a video and the old method (open network stream > Paste youtube URL > Use media info to get a standalone link > Save video) doesn't seem to work anymore as the media streams don't even open. Is there a workaround or fix anywhere?
You can share a channel's streaming URL with viewers so they can watch your live stream using their favorite media player, like VLC. Your viewers must be on the same network as Pearl-2 to watch a channel stream using a stream URL.
The different stream types available for channels include: RTSP, MPEG-TS, and Flash streams, see Viewing a channel's live broadcast stream . The URL contains either the IP address of Pearl-2 or the serial number, see
- Go to Navigation menu and click on Stream.
- Enter video link ( url ) and click play.
I have some http:// type url links for live TV streams, that I would like to use in my "Live TV app" project. These links open up and play in MX Player with no problem when I enter them manually in network stream window. But, in my app; when I click on the same link, it wants to open up in a browser instead (system thinks that is a regular web site link-I guess). I want this link to open in MX Player when it's clicked on it. Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

For the past couple of weeks I discovered quite an exciting and pleasant product, especially for a first time user of a networked streamer device, or someone seeking a good music source that can grow with their audio gear acquisitions over time.
