Why did SAMA come into being - Sled dog sports in South Africa requires an organisation;
· Which practices sound, moral and ethical policies.
· Where politics, hidden agendas and personal agendas are non-existing.
· Which operates on a professional level in accordance to International Sledding Organisations.
· Which would encompass everyone’s needs and not just those of a few individuals.
· Which is far more democratic in its governance and it’s approach to governing.
· Which is transparent to its members at all times.
· Which will not be dictating to its members and decision making will not be autocratic.
· Which offers and gives clear, definitive guidelines and structure, without intruding on the autonomy of the individual clubs.
· Which offers workable solutions specific to the dynamics we find ourselves in.
· Which will be a just and fair parent body, guiding us to make the necessary corrections, when required or where lacking.
· Which would grow our sport and knowledge within and about our sport.
· Which would align us with accepted International practices and policies for the Sport.
· Which would make the sledding world realize S.A has the ability to make a contribution towards the Sport.
· Which would offer internationally accredited education to our mushers, officials and general public.
· Which is prepared to go the extra mile to implement animal welfare practice acceptable to local and world standards.
· Which will put the needs of the dogs first.
· Which will promote cooperation, development, good sportsmanship and consideration of others.
SAMA, where Clubs will have a collective involvement at “Executive Council Level” in the governing of Sled Dog Sports.

Since HSC has adopted the WSA Race Rules would that not automatically discriminate against any non recognized sleddog (Nordic breed), non-purebred as you can not accumulate/win points,
as these will only be awarded to registered pure breeds. In other words, although we own Siberians, which are recognized sleddogs, they are not registered, thus we would only be able to run for fun?
Fiona,
Every body has freedom of speech – it is
their constitutional right, as stated in the SA Constitution. Just as you are using
your constitutional right to voice your opinion, so did Rod.
I presume his comments are based on his own experiences, what are yours?
Please feel free to share them.
I think it is presumptuous of you to assume the
comments are from the new body just as it would be presumptuous of me to think
you are trying to discredit the new organization even before it
has started. Do not make the mistake of judging a book by it’s
cover.
At the end of the day, everyone has the freedom of
choice and either one makes the right choice or the wrong one.
Regards
Interim Secretary
