In keeping with its vision of health it began to work with livelihoods including sustainable (organic) agriculture in 2009. Since then it has reached out to 70 farmers/farming families and currently seeks to stabilise and grow the marketing avenues open to them.Position OverviewFull time logistics manager position based in Vikramgad with visits in Mumbai as needed. Responsible for a small team of employees drawn from the community and experienced in working with farmers.Farmer end. To enhance the diversity, quality and consistency of harvested produce from farmer group and to develop planning, communication and coordination skills among farmer group. The responsibilities involved are:
- To plan seasonal sowing schedule with farmers keeping in mind projected harvest and market requirements.
- To initiate a regular monitoring and feedback system to assess adherence during the season and to communicate to farmers necessary changes/responses needed. To evolve system for tracking farm yields, farm economics and plan improvement strategies.
- To develop a forecasting system to gauge produce expected and train local team to collect data and feed into the system
- To develop core team of farmers who can play leadership roles making special efforts to draw in women farmers
- To network with other farmer groups, resource persons to identify relevant best practices for implementation on farm
- To facilitate financial accounts and reimbursements with farmers.
Market end. To co-ordinate logistics for multiple market avenues and to communicate essential and timely information with them.
- To communicate regularly with market avenues details of harvest, transport and other essential aspects including receive and document feedback on harvest to be communicated to farmer group.
- To assist n manage the logistics and optimise the use of transport to make the most of vehicles available
- To make on the spot decisions about excess, wastage, logistics/transport arrangements as needed or in emergencies.
- To document, record and maintain accounts of produce supplied to each avenue.
- To ensure timely receipt of payment
A logistics manager would
- typically enjoy working with rural marathi speaking communities,
- Knowledge of marathi and working knowledge of english
- be able to ride a two wheeler
- have basic knowledge of Microsoft office
- be a diploma holder/graduate or have worked with rural communities for 3 years
- have some background or interest in farming
Appointment: The initial appointment will be offered for a period of one year with probation of six months. The appointment shall be renewed/extended based on the performance and willingness of the employee and employer.
