This is a request to you, to endorse the following letter to Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India.

In this letter, we request immediate withdrawal of the planned release of two gene edited rice varieties, gene edited-sheep and for appropriate regulation to be bought into place. No information is publicly available on safety testing and risk assessment for these two varieties of rice.
Gene-editing is nothing but old GMOs disguised differently, with a smarter narrative that seeks to bypass public resistance against GM crops.
We put down our asks on the basis of a growing body of scientific literature that points out to the dangers of gene-editing technology, and the need for regulating it.
