Hello All,
FYI.
________________________________________________________________

Dear all,

This is a formal announcement of Drupal Sprint India event happening
on October 30-31 2009. An event for those who love Drupal, geeks and
non-geeks alike.

Announcing Drupal Sprint India, a gathering of Drupal enthusiast from
all over India, to contribute to Drupal development.

The event is organized by Pune Linux Users Group with the support of
Bhaskaracharya Pratishthan as Venue Sponsors.

Drupal is probably the best community driven CMS in open source.
Community driven softwares need community contributions for regular
enhancements and this is your chance to contribute and gain karma.
Drupal sprint India is a two day non-stop event where Drupal
developers, documentation and translation guys will get together to
enhance Drupal. We will have code sprints, documentation sprints as
well as translation sprints.

Join coding sprints to fix patches for upcoming Drupal 7 release or to
port modules from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7 or to develop new modules from
scratch.

Join Documentation sprint to document Drupal. Documentation sprint
will be headed by Addison Berry, Drupal documentation project lead.

Those interested in localization can join the party to translate
Drupal to local languages.

You need not have *any experience* with enhancing Drupal before hand,
even newbies are invited.

That is not all, we have more in store for you.

Got any Drupal success story to share or you have put Drupal to any
innovative use or any magnificent case study where you have integrated
Drupal with third party web services or web sites? This is the time to
showcase this. Parallel to sprint, we will hold talks and workshops to
showcase the capabilities of Drupal beyond CMS to build website. If
you have a story to showcase, register for the event right ahead.

Talks/Workshop registration ends October 15 2009. All talks and
registrations submitted will go through a community voting and top 10
talks plus workshops will be chosen for the event. We plan to hold
total of 8 hours of talks and 8 hours of workshops around Drupal over
two days.

Still interested in Drupal to use it in your next big venture... Just
drop in and learn from the best Drupal brains around the country on
how to put Drupal to best use.

So click   http://drupalindia2009.plug.org.in   now and register for the event.
The event is free, registration is free.  All you have to make sure
that your code is also FREE.

So, what are you waiting for? Mark your calendar for the event dates!!

Great news!

I had sent a message using the contact from at http://drupalindia2009.plug.org.in/ earlier today to which Abhishek had replied. Coping the same here for all in the mailing list to see -

Hi there,

I do not want to miss out on the opportunity to give back to the drupal community. But am sure already, it will not be possible for me to be in Pune on 31Oct for this. This sprint should allow participants to chip in from whatever location they are at. (Along with the main sitting together at Pune ofcourse.) What are the items on plate? Hows the agenda being planned? drupal group? twitter hashtag?

I would be glad to help setup things so that there could be virtual participation for this event.

Hi Sumeet,

We would be updating you on this regards below is the list of things which are planned as of now

1) Documentation Sprint headed by Addisson herself
2) Code Sprint (Bug fixes for D7)
3) Translation Sprint (http://localize.drupal.org/languages/hi)
4) Sessions dor beginners.

Where are the discussions for sprint organization and tidbits going on? Plug mailing list doesnt seem to have anything, I think we can conduct some bootstrap sessions as part of techweekends for interested beginners to get started and organize their interests in line with 4 streams. Again, I am in pune finally and would love to help prior to sprint.

Nice going guys! Pune FOSS community is really awesome.

Some pointers if can you discuss them when you meet -
  1. Wounldnt' it be great to have users from all across India(who cannot be in Pune on 31Oct) contributing from their locations.
  2. Arrangements that would be needed for <1>. Separate IRC channel? Live broadcasting of sessions? (oh btw.. is Addison coming down to pune or participating online?)

Previous sprints for doc have been coordinated in #drupal-docs as most of the doc team is already there, if there are plans to collaborate on IRC then I think #drupal-docs should be used as before, maybe addison can be contacted on IRC collaboration coz it depends on what would we be tackling. It all depends on how many and from where people would be collaborating on IRC if thats on the cards.

Also I am not clear on sessions in drupal sprint india, do we need sessions in a sprint? Is there a list of speakers? Live broadcasting of sessions would make sense if there are considerable sessions in quantity and quality. But I am not sure if a sprint should have "HOWTO" sessions though roundups of all 4 tracks at the end of the day is certainly necessary.

Abhishek, I am not sure if our objective should be the biggest drupal event in india or the most fruitful in terms of coming together and collaborating. There is nothing like numbers and everyone collaborating but for that to happen many people would need bootstraps (which can be conducted for atleast local pune community) as its hard for new people to come and collaborate. If we are aiming it to be the biggest event then we should be prepared to welcome and engage people from varied backgrounds, which I would love to see happen and eager about. We should try to engage/welcome technical writers/bloggers to make documentation sprint a success as that has the lowest barrier to entry.

What are the stats on user registered on DSI site? I see only 9 people committed to attending on linkedin as of today.
