There has been a long debate of allegations and counter-allegations on
drupal.org which is very unhealthy. For nearly 3 years site
administrators of
drupal.org has followed dual standards and this is
not healthy for Drupal.
I also strongly feel that our Indian community is under-represented
and to some extent it may be our fault too that we don't showcase our
brilliant work and participate a lot on
drupal.org or even on
drupalindia.in. But there is also no denying the fact that in multiple
instances many freelancers, developers and shops have been wrongly
cornered by site-maintainers of
drupal.org.
I would not go into more details on each specific issue and those
interested can check recent posts in webmaster queues on this.
I personally feel that there is no 'Terms of Use' on
drupal.org and no-
one works under any set guidelines and this has made many
drupal.org
site-moderators 'notorious' doing illegal activities like calling up
clients(which is none of their business), passing racial remarks,
having dual policies like you can't use 'drupal designs' , 'drupal
point' as business name as you are from India or third-world country(I
am sure there will be others out there too bitten by this) but they
have no problem with 'Drupal Therapy' , 'Drupal Trainer', 'Drupal
Easy' or 'Do it with Drupal'.
A person who makes any allegation or wrongdoing when challenged,
disappears(goes underground) and some other moderator comes and backs
him up. Its working like a cartel. For transparency and
accountability, I am proposing the that there be a rock solid 'good
status' policy that needs to be upheld and respected.
I have few scenarios outlined in my blog on what people can do with
their user ids
http://www.roshiley.com/blog/professional/policy-regarding-drupalorg-userid-good-drupal-community-member-status.
Take a pause and please respond on that URL what you think deserves
'good status' and which not? If there are other scenarios you can
think of, please recommend them too.
