Dear All,

I am evaluating the possibility of organizing 4 day camp for Drupal +
Ruby on Rails in September 2009.

Any thoughts?

That is a grand plan!! Most people would have demanding jobs so first thing you will need is some holiday window (guess am reading too much IPL news :P) where a good number of people would be able to set apart 4 days.

Also, first thoughts.. what things do you already have in mind to pack into the camp.

"WE" as a community should try and get international speakers this time and take the event several notches up. Lot more planning and execution has to be impeccable.

Both Drupal and Ruby on Rails have evolved to create interest from larger audience.  Lot more sessions on Drupal 7 and Rails 3 would help.

Am happy to know you envisioned this. We should certainly do this. Guess you must have already thought of few first steps(like sending out this mail) in planning for the camp. Will do some brain-racking myself for "starterkits" while waiting for the first thoughts of the community.

Hey Roshan,

Next Drupalcon in Paris is also scheduled for September. This may clash with your ideas of bringing international speakers. Who do you have in mind?

Personally, I would like to see Indian drupal camps taken several notches up, but I don't see much momentum in the community at the moment to make that happen.

Speaking about the events you may want to check this one:

Thanks Vaish for the URL - I had reviewed that yesterday and I think its fantastic that we have these numbers to review.

Question: Should we make it free event or paid one?  I do know that with the last free event in Pune, few people had to pull out funds from their pockets as they couldn't get the costs covered.

I am open to draft up a rough budget and present it for everyone to review and then decide on it. But still wanted to get feedback from everyone what they think.

I think we should put a best attempt to attract international community. This time the event may attract international audience as they may seriously be looking to tie-up with Indian companies for cost advantage because of the recession. I will try and line-up more sessions here in local colleges and management institutions to promote Drupal in domestic market as a run up to the event to create the momentum.

I am also contemplating to move the schedule up further in around mid August so it does not clash with DrupalCon and PHPCamp

Looks like this time we may get Venue for free.  And  I am in serious talks with SVNIT, Surat and will get an update in 2 to 3 weeks.

If we are able to attract international community/speaker then that
will be great.
We have to plan it well in advance. In Pune event we didn't get good
success in fund raising.
Also next time event we have to engage Indian Drupal contributor as Organizer.

Roshan, good initiative !
