- good to hear from you...I'm surprised that there are no comments it wasn't that long ago that this group was absolutely buzzin! 
Anyway, I take it that you are doing ok...I won't say anymore in this most globally public of spaces! 
I think you saw my message about getting married in February -to my partner of 22 years, we thought it was about time LOL ! 
- I definitely will pop up again - maybe I'll shout out in a loud voice "...WHERE'S ARTHUR!!!???" see if that has any effect...

hello Steve -have you met Steve, I remember the days when everyone in drum circle world was called Steve -except for Arthur !
- ahh those were the days...btw, where is Sharpie Steve? someone said he's running a lot these days...iron man stuff !

OK, drum circle news my latest project Witchford 'Wednesday' Drum Circle, has its first anniversary this week...we meet between 
1.00 and 2.30 pm on a Wednesday afternoon, and is a frame drum group, Saami / Native American Indian -pulse drumming, we have a 
5 people -regulars, a few more who come when they can, it's £8 per session...covers the cost of the hall and my ex's...keeping my hand in...
I've had two independent jobs since Covid...sadly missing those drum circles I initiated in 2004 (ran til 2017) & 2006 ( ran til the first Covid lockdown), I keep getting calls to teach Djembe, but not from enough people in the same part of town - no one wants to travel these days...
- how is it for you guys, and anyone else called Steve ;-)

Hi Steves 

     Not a Steve here but Radar in Vancouver. Our Tuesday evening drum circle is about to transition to the beach any time now. We have been meeting at a first nations church here in the east side since the lockdown. We had to keep it on the down low for a year because too many people were showing up and the last thing we needed was the cops to come and bust us. Things are better now and we have a great group of people that love to drum. How about everybody else. What’s up?

Still remember you and your boy and his goggles! It was a vintage year to be at the Playshop. Was that also the year of Fred and "Sky - KING!"?

I'm thrilled that you're both still at it, in your own ways.

My plans to 'retire' from DCF-ing were hastened when I 'crashed' (fell at home; not found for two days) and Parkinson's started making its presence felt.

COVID lockdown would have put the kybosh on it, as well.

I'm mostly ground-floor and armchair bound.  I had to leave the Taiko group I helped to found; I still ZOOM with the hand-drumming group using a Meinl travel cajon. Both are in York - 30 miles away.

Thanks for being on the ball, Steve!

Actually I do have somewhere to put them: The MacTavish had her  'Victory Wall'; I have my ' Book of Me', in which I record such compliments for later consideration, and an ego 'top-up' or prop-up when needed.

Wow! Almost all the Steves in one thread! Ive got the group emails popping into my "look at once a month" folder - time to change that I think.
Mr Spock ears, circles of drums made from plastic waterbottles and using 'the Archers' theme tune to teach 6/8, an amazing degree of skill gently hiding behind humility and self-effacement - but we are missing the Sharpie catch!
Hard to imagine Mr Hill retiring, but I guess someone must have asked him whether he was, because I believe I heard that his catchphrase was "the answer is yes. Now what's the question"!
After this waddle down memory lane from Playshops before the drum was invented (we used to just bang stones together then....) Ill give you some of my news - if anyone can remember back that far, or is interested.
I've been married (i don't think that that had happened when I brought Jane to a playshop). I've retired from my quite busy job. Jane Died 2 years ago. I'm learning how to facilitate Vocal improvisation and circle songs. I'm finally hosting a regular drum circle of my own once a month in Kew. Other than that lots of love to all who know me, and to those who dont - well hope to meet you soon!

Global interest news that I have shared over other outlets includes ::

Our DRUMSTRONG efforts have matured and along with the on-going health and humanitarian focused intentions, have culminated to produce ‘Rhythm Aid Projects’ Ukraine and wants to expand. When we initiated this we saw instantaneous positive results at the Ohkmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv and are in conversation with their Children’s Hospice center, facilities in Italy, Denmark, France, Canada and Israel (hopefully Gaza).

Remo, Mickey Hart, Jon Fishman, Christine Stevens, Mike DeMenno, Arthur and others have had our back on these projects. 


If you are, or know who is willing to identify, connect us to, and possibly work with local refugee and/or medical centers in your neighborhood, please be in touch. These will be regular, paying gigs.

I may be a bit slowish to respond as I’ve been dealing with cancer again these past two years but still working to encourage healing, uplifting rhythm whenever/whereever…

Hi Steve, Steve, Steve and Steve .. and all the Steve wannabes! 
This is Wani from Tasmania, you know? That little heart-shaped island between Australia and Antarctica? ❤️
I’ve never met any of you Steve’s, sadly, although I’ve been to Hawaii three times, and only lack of $ keeps me away; the exchange rate between Au and US dollars is a major inhibiting factor, sigh . 
Since Covid our  little drum group here has persisted and slowly grown, meeting weekly in my NearlyTreeHouse to learn, play, share, create, improvise, jam, and laugh ourselves silly, blow away the week on a Friday afternoons  that leaves us refreshed, happy, light .. you know, you get it! 
Life is good, on an Island off a big Island, we’re pretty laid back, artists, Buddhist’s, gardeners, teachers, surfers, aging hippies, and a regular stream of visitors from other parts of the world who happen upon this delightfully insignificant ( to the rest of the world 😍 … long may it be so 😍) little island. An Arthurian Outpost. 

I facilitate drum circles wherever I go, whenever I can , and have share them spirit with all sorts of groups of people .. yeah you know all this stuff, and it still gives me a buzz , I don’t plan to ever stop! 

Last time I was in Hawaii, my graduation piece was a facilitation I offered for the after-dinner musicality session, to transition into late night .. as a celebration of 20 years of Hawaii gatherings. I was lucky to have Huxy to video it, and I’m sharing with you now, as there is still joy, facilitating a celebration with about 60!drummers  😍and of course, sky King called in for a spotlight solo! 
It’s10 minutes, but worth waiting for the end, turn up your speakers, of course!!! 
I’m so grateful to be part of this world-wide celebration of Life and Love ❤️

Aloha from Maui and Greetings drum circle community,
I pray that you are all doing well and thriving...and if you are not, may you be using the challenges that you face to learn and grow and know the deep inner peace that exists within us all.
In response to Steve Ball's message.....It seems like the group has been fairly quiet overall as far as I can see. Who's to know why this is so..I guess people lead busy lives!  Congratulations to Steve on your retirement! I pray that this next chapter for you is fulfilling and exploratory! It's been 24 years since my first Hawaii camp with Arthur and the days of Sky King! These are such treasured memories of wonderful guidance & information and the loveliest of people that I'll never forget!

An update on the Maui Music Mission is that they just received another donation of instruments from Shakerman, Kerry Green. Thank you SOOOO much to Kerry, Drum Strong, the Narada Michael Walden Foundation and anyone else who helped this non-profit get back on their feet after the Lahaina fire. They have a new location in central Maui at the Cameron Center and are back up and running, providing lots of free music lessons to children. The island is still recovering from the horrible Lahaina fire last August, with still a couple thousand families living in hotels. The county is in the process of transferring toxic waste from the fire to central Maui and measures have been taken to remove permitting for vacation rentals in certain areas of West and South Maui to help create more long term housing availability for those still in need. On a happy note, my drummer friends Zephyr and Madeline have started rebuilding in Lahaina, one of the very few. 

There is a wonderful non-profit called, Wisdom Circles Oceana that provides an art workshop and lunch for free to relief workers (there are still MANY) who are still working with families who have been affected by the fire, to give them a chance to rejuvenate themselves. I had the honor of  playing music, (Hawaiian music and more) for them as they did their lei-making and leaf painting projects. The sharing circle was deep and emotional as these people have been working, practically non-stop for almost a year on recovery. There were nurses, counselors and local Hawaiian leaders who have been instrumental in acquiring land in West Maui for new homes to be built for fire survivors.  I hope to provide rhythm circles to them in the future as well.

I'm also finishing up another year of providing rhythm circles in the elementary schools with K-3 and teaching ukulele to 4th & 5th grades, and providing rhythm circles to the teachers & staff. I am loving this job as much as I always have! I'm also in negotiations with Kaiser Permanente's 'Rise Up', a national program for increasing emotional resilience through drumming, to be their Maui contact. I will be facilitating their program here since it is too costly to send all the drums and people here from California. Their program includes attention to stress awareness and identification within yourself, and of course, using the drums as relief and healing medicine.

My heart is still heavy from the massive losses of life and property in Lahaina. Having been there MANY times after Village Music Circles Hawaiian Facilitators Playshop, I enjoyed the people, the scenery, the culture and people of Maui. So much was lost, and much due to human error. THAT is so heartbreaking.

I was happy to send a box of asstd instruments to the group over there and wish I could have done more, but along with other donations, collectively we can help them in their needs. I look forward to returning to my beloved Maui sooner than later and sharing in playing rhythms with them. I already feel tears building up inside as all the saddness surfaces about what they went thru then and now as well. Please send what you can whether it be instruments, cash, clothing etc or just blessings to all there who were affected by the fire.

Aloha Reuben and Ronda,
I just sent a 28” x 15” x 15” box with 10 full sets of BoomWhackers (60 pieces), 10 DRUMSTRONG egg shakers, assorted wood, recycled plastic and metal hand percussion (claves, blocks, bell, etc), a couple of tshirts and caps.

They say it will arrive Wednesday and the Tracking Number is circled in the photo.
Please let me know when it arrives safely.
