Dear all,
In view of the declining population in indigenous pig-National Biodiversity  Center(NBC) have initiated the following interventions for conservation and sustainable utilization-
In-situ conservation program in collaboration with Dzongkhags- Support through ILCCP project to indigenous pig rearing farmers in project area with improve housing materials/piglet supply and training.
Initiated multiplier farmer to sustain native pig rearing/ supply of piglets within the community and other areas for income generation.
Ex-situ conservation program: Initiated Nucleus herd farm for pureline native breed at Yusipang in collaboration with NLBP/DoL.
Initiated germplasm (semen) collection for preservation in the gene bank.
Similar steps have been taken for indigenous poultry also by NBC.
NBC is also seriously viewing the best forms of interventions to ensure the conservation and sustainable utilization of An.GR especially threatened breeds.
