Naagmani is mentioned in many Hindu Scriptures, like Garuda Puranam, Brihat Sahinta, Rajavallbha as well. Vrahamihira (505-587) who was a famous astrologer, mathematician and astronomer in Ujjain wrote in his Brihat Sahinta. According to these texts the Manidhari Naags exist in this world.
The snakes born in the clan of Taksak and Vasuki, are believed to carry a lustrous, shiny stone on their hoods, in their mouth or on their tails, which radiates green, blue or yellow coloured light, this is called Naagmani. It posses an unusually glow that illuminates its surroundings. It is believed that the person who carries the Naagmani will not be affected by any kind of poison.
Some people also believe that Naagmani is formed when rain droplets enters mouth of King Cobra during Swati nakshatra. It is formed in the hood of King Cobra. Naagamani is said to have blessings of Lord Shiva. However, possessing Naagmani is not easy, as King Cobra never discloses Naagmani.
The mystery of Nag Mani is still unresolved. Many things have been said about Naagmani in greatness. It is said whoever owns Naagmani, will have great fortune regarding money, health and fame. Naagmani embodies an immortal love story of two supernatural beings who fall prey to the greed of a witch. It captures a tale of love between the shape-shifting Naag - Naagin and the never-ending greed of the evil witch seeking immortality by acquiring the life-giving jewel possessed by the Naagin. Under the shadow of a witch, will a wishful/shape-shifting serpent be able to write their great love story.
Since the very first season of Naagin series, Naagmani is stated to be the sole powerful jewel in the universe but in the sixth season, the concept of 9 Naagmani got introduced as the ultimate sources of the ultimate powers.
Naagmani was first introduced in season one where the royal dynasty of Suryavanshi used to protect Naagmani along with Ichchadari Naag-Naagin Jodi. During the rule of King Sangram Singh in Suryavanshi dynasty, Princess Yamini(Step-Sister of King Sangram Singh) grew greedy and wanted to gain Naagmani for her selfish motives for which she teamed up with her mansion's servants Ankush, Sailesh, Viren and Suri to steal Naagmani from Shiv Temple. To gain Naagmani, Ichchadari Naag-Naagin Jodi who were the protectors of Naagmani got killed by Suri, Sailesh , Ankush , Viren and Yamini. but still Naagmani failed to get in the hands of Yamini and her gang. Naagmani was already shifted to a cave by Sangram Singh for its protection.
Naagmani was stored inside the cave for many years but Ritik Singh, descendant of King Sangram Singh took away Naagmani from the cave and handed over to Yamini who was unaware of her evil intentions but the daughter of long dead Ichchadari Naag-Naagin named Shivanya and her cousin, Shesha fought to gain Naagmani from the evil hands of Yamini. Naagmani was then preserved in the Panchner mansion by King Sangram Singh but Yamini got away with Naagmani. Naagmani then got in the hands of Shivanya who used it to revive injured Ritik and Naagmani was restored in Shiv Temple. Maheshmati and Shesha tried to gain Naagmani for their selfish motives from Shiv Temple but Shivanya and Ritik did not let them take Naagmani away and Naagmani got protected for 25 years.
Naagmani reappeared in the old Shiv Temple after 25 years where Yamini, Shesha, Avantika (Queen of Maheshmati) and their gang tried to steal it but failed since they were not Suryavanshi . Naagmani got into the hands of true heir of Suryavanshi, Shivangi (Ritik and Shivanya's daughter) who vowed to protect Naagmani from Yamini, Shesha and Avantika. Shivangi accompanied by Naag Rudra then protected Naagmani and shifted Naagmani to the Panchner mansion for the protection. Yamini and her gang attempt a lot to gain Naagmani from Shivangi but failed and at last, Shivangi and her husband, Rocky restored Naagmani to the cave and dissappeared into the thin air.
Naagmani reappeared after few months where Takshak Naagraj Rocky and Takshak Naagrani Takshika aka Shesha tricked Shivangi and gained Naagmani where they used Naagmani to snatch Shivangi's shapeshifting powers. Naagmani was stored in Takshak Lok for a while unless Rocky returned Naagmani to Shivangi when he learnt the truth of Takshika and Yamini. Naagmani was used by Rocky to return Shivangi all of her powers. Naagmani was used as the protection for Nikunj family where Mansi Bua gained Naagmani who used it to protect herself and her children from Yamini and Takshika. Yamini got Naagmani from Mansi Bua and tried to use it to kill Shivangi and Rocky but Shivangi and Rocky got the Naagmani back from her by killing her.
Naagmani was secured in the Naag mansion where Naagmani gained its new protector, Naagrani Bela. Naagmani got stolen by Nidhog Naagrani Sumitra but Naagrani Bela was able to gain Naagmani back and restored back to its place. Naagrani Bela soon disowned her throne and Bela's younger sister, Juhi became new Naagrani who betrayed Bela and handed Naagmani in the hands of the enemies of Naag-Naagin, the shapeshifting vulture Vyom who then betray Juhi. Bela and Juhi fought together against Vyom and gained back Naagmani from him. Naagmani then went into the protection of Bela who reclaimed her title as Naagrani. Naagrani Bela then hide Naagmani in the care of Naag-Pandit for a while. Naagrani Bela took back Naagmani and` used it to cure her husband, Mahir. Soon, Naagmani got in the hands of evils(Sumitra, Taamsi and their gang) when Bela and Mahir died but Naagmani lost all its powers due to a curse given by Mahanaagrani Shivangi according to which, Naagmani would be cursed when Naagrani would not be present to protect it. Naagamani remained with Sumitra and her evil gang for 25 years where they used Bela's reinacarnation Shravani to free Naagmani from curse by summoning Mahanaagrani Shivangi. Mahanaagrani Shivangi free Naagmani from curse and Shravani as a Naagrani of Naaglok executed Sumitra, Taamsi and Shesha to protect Naagmani. Naagmani remained safe in the mansion for 50 full moons.
Naagin Vishakha came to gain Naagmani after 50 full moons using Nayanthara but she gets unsuccessful and Naagmani got stored inside Dev. Over an year, Vishakha tried to gain Naagmani from Dev where she used his wife Brinda and lured Brinda and Dev to Rahasmayee Mandir where Vishakha and Shalakha tried to kill Dev and gain Naagmani but Naagarani and Shesha helped Brinda to protect Naagmani by killing Vishakha and Shalakha. Aadinaagin returned back to the mortal world to eject Naagmani out from Dev.
Aadinaagin Naageshwari narrated her tale which was 10,000 Light Years ago where she got the boon to became the first Ichchadari Naagin who protected Naagmani from the clan of eagles. While protecting Naagmani, An eagle prince named Aakesh got obsessed with her which resulted the deaths of Aadinaag Hriday(Aadinaagin's lover), Aakesh and Aadinaagin.
Sheshnaagin Pratha used Naagmani to fight against the conspiracy in the nation where Naagmani was stored inside Sheshnaagin which provided more divine powers to Sheshnaagin than any other Ichchadari Naagin. Sheshnaagin Pratha soon sacrificed her powers along with Naagmani for her husband, Rishabh. After an year, Pratha's elder sister Mahek gained the powers of Naagmani and became Sheshnaagin but that did not last long and Pratha gained back Naagmani and her powers of Sheshnaagin. Pratha used Naagmani to defeat all her enemies. After 20 years, the daughter of Pratha and Rishabh, Prathna gained Naagmani and became the new Sheshnaagin and soon Prathna gained the powers of 9 Naagmani as well which was stored in the mystical anklets of Pratha's grandmother for ages and Prathna became Maha Sheshnaagin with the powers of 9 Naagmani but this resulted the deaths of Prathna's parents and lover from her enemies who wanted to gain 9 Naagmani from her. 6 years later, Prathna with the help of Naagin Shesha used the powers of 9 Naagmani to fight her parents' murderers, Mahek and Seema. Mahek , Seema and their associate Naagin Vishakha soon got 9 Naagmani from Prathna when Shesha betrayed Prathna. Mahek selled 9 Naagmani to Yudhir but Maha Sheshnaag Raghuveer helped Prathna to gain back 9 Naagmani.
