I have been to more drug rehabs than you can shake a stick at and I
have learned something at every single one of them.
See everyone thought I was a loser and I just couldn't get it. But the
truth is every drug rehab I have ever attended and the lessons learned
therein have been part of my path.
The truth is I have had more sobriety dates then there are actual
dates on the calendar. Thank god no one ever threw me away and I never
stopped trying. See, if you are a "real" alcoholic or a "real" drug
addict you don't get sober the first time at drug rehab. Now maybe if
you have a "problem" with drugs or alcohol you can get sober for the
first time at drug rehab. But generally speaking drug rehabs are for
"addicts" not "problem users".
Good drug rehabs not only have individualized therapy and groups, such
as education, process, etc. But also are 12 Step based and most
importantly formulate an exit plan wherein the graduating resident
knows where his next AA meeting is. Obviously, if you are an alcoholic
or drug addict of "my type" if you don't know where you're "next"
meeting is you ain't going.
When choosing your next drug rehab know that all good drug rehabs
subscribe to the above and remember when touring a drug rehab center,
see if you can feel the love. If you can't feel the "pull" then that
drug rehab facility is not for you. But whatever you do don't give up;
remember real addicts almost always attend multiple drug rehabs.
God willing on March 3rd, I will have four years sober.
