ZDoom now comes in multiple flavours! The primary port, GZDoom, sports advanced hardware (OpenGL) and enhanced software rendering capabilities, while the port LZDoom serves as an alternative with a different feature set, detailed below. Although the parent ZDoom codebase has been discontinued, the latest official release is available here for posterity.

LZDoom is based on an older version of GZDoom. It does not provide all features currently supported by GZDoom but in turn is capable of running the hardware renderer on older hardware which does not support modern OpenGL features.

For help getting started, see the online documentation in the wiki. You need to provide your own game IWAD. If you do not have a copy of a doom-engine game, the easiest way to obtain them is to purchase them from Steam or GOG. When you download them from either of these stores, ZDoom will automatically find them.

This is a standalone version of ZDoom's internal node builder. Its most important feature is that it knows about polyobjects, but it can also build GL nodes if you don't want to wait for glBSP to do it. At the time of writing, it is also the only nodebuilder with UDMF support.

This is the latest source code for ZDoom's version of ACC. It includes both a makefile for GCC and a project file for Visual C++ 6, so you can build a Windows, DOS, or Linux version. It is also available on its GitHub repository.

ZDoom supports using FluidSynth for MIDI playback. To use it, extract libfluidsynth.dll to the same directory as zdoom.exe and then configure it from within ZDoom. FluidSynth is bundled with GZDoom since v3.1.0, so this separate download is only useful for older versions.

ZDoom supports using TiMidity++ for MIDI playback. To use it, extract timidity.exe and timidity.cfg and read the instructions. TiMidity++ has become an internal player integrated within GZDoom since v3.3.0, so this separate download is only useful for older versions.

This is the source code for ZDBSP 1.19. The build system uses CMake, so you can generate project files for any version of Visual C++ from 6 up or several other IDEs, or you can create Makefiles as well. It is also available on its GitHub repository.

A DETH-based editor for ZDoom that runs in a DOS box. Comes with minimal documentation. If you don't already know how to use DETH, you should go find a good tutorial that explains it. If you plan on doing any ACS scripting, you should be sure to also download ACC below.

The way that I recommend if you don't have a lot of experience working with Unix/Linux is to directly download the executable from a nearby GNU mirror and install it like an another program in windows.

A minor correction I'd like to suggest. When the emacs is installed with the executable (and not msys2), the ".emacs.d" config folder resides in the "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming" folder and not the user home folder. Minor note, in case someone spots the difference: It's now more common to clone the doom-emacs repo to .config/emacs, thus also having the doom .el files in .config/doom. I'm a noob, so all I know is that removes some clutter in $HOME.

Hi guys! I have an issue - game detect my gamepad (Xbox One) - but it's not working! Also same problem with PS4 Gamepad with Xbox emulation, Minidoom see it, but gamepad is not responding. I tried to launch the game as administrator, it doesn't help. Only keyboard and mouse work. Win 11, v. 3.0.0 (there is no 3.1 version). Please help!

Honestly, we were also surprised how well it translated to 2D haha. The roster of enemies and weapons of Doom is such a strong archetype that I bet it works translated to many other game genres too.

WOW, what a great game!!! Beat it on normal with all the secrets unlocked. But i think the ultra nightmare mode is bugged. First off, the decision to make the fortress of doom not accessible in that mode is kinda stupid if you ask me because there are 2 secret runes there(and a lot of weapons too but i can manage that). Secondly, the Pandemonium is kinda impossible to beat on ultra nightmare because the telegraph can't kill the fat demon(sorry i forgot the name). But overall excellent game, hope these bugs will be fixed.

Hello. Oh crap, I wasn't aware that the fortress isn't accessible in Ultra-nightmare... that mode got the least testing in the last patch. Also wasn't aware of the pandemonium issue. Thanks for reporting this, and sorry about the bugs! I'm happy that someone took the ultra-nightmare challenge, you must be a miniDoom-prodigy!

In the overworld after loading a save, when you press escape to show the "Quit Game" menu, the options (Cancel, Start Screen, and Exit Game) cannot be selected via the jump/shoot buttons. Only Enter works. This is inconsistent with the rest of the UI.

No problems otherwise. I'm really enjoying my time with this!

Duke Nukem already has several side-scrollers... '3D' was actually the third installment, and a popular naming convention at the time (many games with two 2D installments developed a third in 3D) to make a double entendre of the '3' suffix).
