Sync between Memories and Google drive has become 1-way recently

I have been using the Memories app on my Android phone for years and had been syncing its data with a Google sheet. Till a couple of months back the syncing was 2-way. I could make changes to data on the phone or in the synced Google sheet (as long as the changes were restricted to the description text only) and it would sync both ways. For the last couple of months (after an update maybe?) only changes made on the phone update in Google sheets and not the reverse. I have tried changing the conflict settings (it is not really a conflict anyway) to Keep on device, Keep on server and Combine both. I have even uninstalled the app, re-installed it, restored all data from the a backup and set up an completely fresh Google sheet for syncing. Nothing has worked. I am beginning to feel that an app update may have introduced the problem. Any help?
