When an exception occurs while processing a request, such as an NPE, a 500 internal error is returned to the client, with a message like 'There was an error processing your request. It has been logged (ID fe49a13e76c59894'

Where is this exception / error actually stored? I haven't found any docs on this. Where should I look to find the exception with the given id?

Thanks.

You can configure in config where to store logs. When you get id of error you just do ctrl+f and search for id.

What's the name of the config setting? Is there a default value?

Does anything need to be done to enable that - or does it log by default in /var/log/<app name>?
