Hi,

What's the future plan for Dropwizard 1.X series? Given that 2.X has been released for a while, is there a plan to deprecate 1.X series?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm in the process of upgrading hundreds of services from 1.0.6 to the latest 1.X (aka 1.3.24). This is going to take some significant amount of work. One worry I have is 1.X will be deprecated shortly after I finish this upgrade.

Are there any plans to deprecate 1.X or keep the support for the next N years? Thanks!

Bump.

Any DW maintainers mind shedding lights on this matter? Thanks!

The committers are having a discussion about this right now. We’ll keep the list updated.

Hi,

Thanks for asking this important question and sorry that a reply took so long!

Dropwizard 1.3.x will be officially supported until December 31, 2020.

The official announcement has just been sent to the respective mailing lists:

Best regards,

Hi,

I noticed version 1.3.29 was released on Jan 6th, 2021. What's the rationale of releasing a new 1.3.X version after the support ended on 2020? Thanks!

It was meant to coincide with the final 2.9.x release of Jackson:

to make sure there is no need for any more releases (deadline for reporting relevant bugs was end of 2020-12-31).

In general "supported until Xxx" means "unsupported at earliest on Xxx + 1 day".

I see. Thanks for explaining the rationale! I'm following "dropwizard" on twitter now.
