to Drop.io API
Would Drop.IO be a good fit for the following:

Site where people can upload their photos for individual sale
(download).

hi michael -- yes, our API would be a good fit for powering that functionality.  We would suggest that you build the application to make the transactions themselves separate (so that you can have a high degree of control over exactly how you are selling things) -- but as far as the content itself, we are ideal for that

all the best,
sam (at dropio)

Hi Michael, that sounds like a perfect use for our premium API. The drop.io API handles the uploads & conversion for you, and gives you links to thumbnails as well as the full-size download URLs for when people purchase the photos. I'd also recommend each photographer in your system get their own "drop" so you can easily display photos by a single artist.

I'm happy to get you set up with a premium key and answer any questions you've got about our API, so please feel free to email me any time.

Thanks, and looking forward to seeing what you build!

drop.io: powers content sharing online

Thanks Eric. Couple folllow-up questions:

  1. Looking at the pricing at the Drop.IO site, if this scales to a few thousand photographers, how would costs scale? Since the business model is per photo, not per photographer (the photographer isn't charged to become a member of the site), I guess I'm wondering about alignment of costs scaling as number of  photographers scale.
  2. Is there any eCommerce / Shopping  cart solution that you know of that has drop.io functionality built in or as a plug-in?
