Null-pointer exception, how to debug the docker image?

Hi guys,

i've been playing with the drools-workbench and kie-server docker images and it works fine for a while. But sometimes I get this exception:

looks like the only think that could be null is the KieContainer. Has anyone seen this? What could be the root cause of it? How can I debug the kie server?

I figured this happens because of this:
1) Clone my repository from github.
2) It says "Success, may take some time to index the project"
3) Build & Compile.
4) Create a new container and deploy to kie server.
5) The UI shows Green as if it is successful, but the console shows the kie-server is requesting a lot of jars from the drools workbench and it literally takes about 3-4 minutes to display:

If I try to insert facts before this message is shown, then I get the NullPointerException.
If I try to insert facts after this message is shown, then there is no NullPointerException.

Again, the UI does not indicate I have to wait.

Hi Petar,

We're also getting the same issue in Kie server version 7.2.0.Final and Wildfly 10. Did you find any solution for the same?

Hello,

Well I'm not sure about the reason for the concrete NPE sorry, but AFAIK in order to debug the docker images you only need to expose the debug socket, as when running the JVM in a regular process.

I'm not really up-to-date with this, not sure if there exist other (better) ways to do it, but you can try to run the wildfly (jvm) with debugging enabled and expose the debug port in the dockerfile. This way, when running the container it'll bind the debug socket to the host (local) port, so you can attach the debugger to it and try to capture the NPE... Hope it helps a little bit.
