Hi, i was trying the jbang xls to dmn converter - https://github.com/kiegroup/drools/tree/main/kie-dmn/kie-dmn-xls2dmn-cli (very useful tool by the way)

And i thought of two possible extensions that could be useful:
1)  to specify the type of the input / output (number, string, ...)
2) to use "complex structures" (for example a tEntry with key and value attributes) as input or output.

Ciao.

Hi Francisco,
thank you for reaching out and for sharing your feedback with us. That's great to hear!

These are interesting suggestions, and will definitely keep those in mind when further iterating on this capability.

We want to keep this use-case simple however, so will definitely explore about 2) but will check what's possible to do without making the flow too complex.

An idea somehow connected to 1) I wanted to explore, is that iff the table is "simple enough" (such as, only numeric ranges) it should be possible to automatically infer the type.
But yes the feature to specify the input types is very important, as you highlight.

Another idea I wanted to iterate on, was to automatically generate some DMN's Decision Service definitions in the produced DMN file: that would make it very convenient for re-using the logic in other DMN models or other assets.
What do you think?

If you have further feedback don't hesitate to share!

In the meantime, hope this helps,
MM
