Help with Camera Hotshoe signal

Hi Philip, I think I need a little help with a hardware issue. I am trying to read the flash hot shoe signal from a camera. I tried 2 Sony cameras and they work as expected. But I tried a Nikon and it does not work. Supposedly the hot shoe is just a relay closing contacts between the center contact and ground. So I made the circuit shown here:
And on the sony it gives me a very clean signal. But on the Nikon it starts fine at 5V then goes low to 0 on trigger, but then it never comes back up to 5, it stays at like 1V. Any Ideas what could be causing this? should I change the resistor value maybe?

Given the simple schematic, that looks like the aux pin has been set to output low, and the 1k is working with internal protection resistors to make a resistive divider.

Currently i don't have the pin connected to the pixhawk. That pin is only connected to the oscilloscope so that is not it. I think it may be something on the cameras internal circuitry, I found a couple of circuits I am gonna try. And I will change the resistor value as that might be playing a role also.

I did a little searching after sending that, and then realized it probably wasn't that - since you had it working on other cameras.
Although the shoe is considered "contact closure", it could be a transistor or similar. In that case resistor value may mater. Polarity also.
This came up on the AS-15 Sync Terminal accessory :
"No Program modes ("A" "S" or "P") can be used when using external strobes, as the camera has no way to meter or control external units."
