There is still no suitable solutution for advanced control of proffessional cameras in Ardupilot.

Randy seems to be interested to implement the serial protocol for the CamRemote device.

The protocol is here: http://vp-systems.eu/cr_uart.html

I am no developer but I opened it as starting point for Linnar from VP Systems.

Cheers

There is this nice ISO standard called Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP), that let's you transfer pictures and control the camera. In the beginning many camera manufacturers used to support it, but over the years they have moved away from the standard and started using proprietary control systems instead (or simply having no remote control at all).

Nikon I think, is the last big brand that still offers some PTP control in their DSLR cameras (my old Nikon D80 can be fully controlled using PTP).

There are several protocols on the camera market with more or less functionality. Most of the new devices add WLAN functionality to control them via smart phone, but i am not sure if this would be the right way for us if we had a additional sender on 2.4. BTW this feature is also in development by VP Systems.
I my opinion we need a protocol bridge between the camera and ardupilot. The CamRemote device adopts many devices and protocols to their serial protocol.

So it should be the right way to implement their protocol.

I agree, that it is probably the best we can hope for in today's marked of proprietary control. But be aware that many on the control schemes give very little control of the camera, and only give you basic zoom and take picture control with no settings for shutter, aperture etc.

Fantastic.
I'll be a happy tester.
Cheers,
