Hi,

I wouldn't ordinarily post this here because it is an operational question.

What is the current state of SBus (and SBus 2) compatibilty?

The reason I am posting it here, is that I wrote all of the information on SBus compatibility for the wiki over two years ago and that is still the entire information on compatibility with no updates or changes.

And I am pretty sure there is more information and more compatibility now than there was then.

I have had an inquiry regarding compatibility of the FRSky X8R receiver which works in SBus or RSSI with the Pixhawk but have no idea if it is compatible now or not and the pages I wrote in the wiki do not address this.

So first, what level of SBus (and what SBus compatible receivers) are currently supported?

And Second would whoever is now working on the wiki please update those sections to include the current information?

Best regards,

Gary

Hi Gary, I am currently using FrSky X4, X6 and X8 Rx's on SBUS.  It "just works", that's all I can tell you. :)

Thanks Rob,

I'll let the person who contacted me know, you are using the Pixhawk in SBus mode I presume.

I thought I remembered that getting "fixed" some time ago.

But I went to check on the Wiki and the only information was what I wrote 2 years ago when it definitely was not working.

I notice a lot of the wiki is getting some good new info, but perhaps this needs to get it too.

It all moves so fast that keeping the wiki up to date is a huge task, I know, been there, done that.

It wasn't really in Lorenz's PX4 database either (at least I couldn't find it - Their info is a bit scattershot though so I could have missed it).

Maybe now things will settle down a bit and give the Wiki a chance to catch up with the hardware. firmware and software.

Best,

Gary

I have asked Hamish to update the Ardupilot wiki. In the mean time you can see the status here https://pixhawk.org/peripherals/radio-control/futaba/start?s[]=sbus#sbussbus_2

Thank You Craig,

I had found that list, but it doesn't actually include the FRSky X4, 6 and 8 receivers which are according to Rob also working fine.

For that matter it doesn't still include the Delta 8 FRSky receiver which I am using on my Hitech and put in the Wiki 2 years ago.

I am afraid their list is as incomplete and not up to date as ours.

I am afraid stuff just moves too fast.

Best regards,

Gary

Hi Gary, Robert

I've updated the section here with the information in the pixhawk page.

Which section(s) would FRSky X4, 6 and 8 + Delta 8 FRSky receiver go in? Even better, could you update the page since you know exactly what works, and I would only be guessing?

Regards
H

Just to add up to Rob's comment, I've also used X8R receivers with OpenTX -Taranis X9D, via the receiver SBUS out on the receiver to RCIN on the PixHawk. Please note that the X8R receivers were all of the nonEU version.

Previously I've also used OrangeRX R800 receiver that also has SBUS output, with both a Spektrum DX9 and also a Taranis X9D with OrangeRX transmitter module.

Again SBUS out from the receiver to the RCIN on the Pixhawk.

Important Note: The SBUS port on the PixHawk is an output that can now be controlled as a SBUS output (passthrough) via a parameter.

I am using DX8 with OrangeRX R800 and also the lemonrx 8ch PPM both without issue.

I'm using corona sbus servos on a couple of planes. I have orangerx dsm receivers providing sbus input.

Looks like no code for sbus2 output yet.

There has been some talk on the px4 list about supporting the full number of sbus1 servo channels but I haven't been following this closely/recently. The px4 servo array was only big enough to support the pwm outputs. It didn't sound like it was going to be a problem to increase this.

No code for the 2 binary output channels. I ignored binary channels since I don't have hardware to test.

Daniel.

The parameter to enable the SBUS output from the PixHawk is BRD_SBUS_OUT. It's somewhat recent. I've tested to enable SBUS control of a Gimbal and it works fine.

FYI, I added a new section to capture all these cases where there is "anecdotal" evidence that a particular system works: http://planner.ardupilot.com/wiki/common-pixhawk-and-px4-compatible-rc-transmitter-and-receiver-systems/#further_notes_on_s-bus_s-bus_2_compatibility

If anyone wants to provide more detailed information within the page, then please feel free to do so!
