The hardware of DROID-3 has 8 bit architecture so it's not something you can do simply by making a few changes in the firmware.
We needed more than 8 bit internally for some features - like the wide pitch range. It required an extra effort to obtain that on 8 bit hardware.
We don't mind 16 bit but there are alot of synths doing that already and DROID-3 was intended to be different from the ordinary synths on the market today.
