Hello,

It recommends using tools such as Droid to extract metadata (see page 172) and lists 3D model-specific metadata as scale, number of vertices, geometry type, number of faces and number of points.

Would DROID extract this 3D data specific metadata or would it need to be created manually?

Best wishes,

Emma

Hi Emma,

The metadata DROID can provide consists of relatively generic file-specific metadata, such as last modified date, size in bytes, file path, a checksum if requested and a couple of other things, but it's primary purpose is providing file format identification, so for example it should be able to distinguish between an AutoCAD 3D file and a VRML one (among many other 3D format types, including specific versions).

Unfortunately DROID cannot provide the 3D model-specific metadata described in the document. They mention ffprobe also, but I am unfamiliar with the depth of detail that tool offers.

Perhaps if you contact the creators of the document they may be able to provide you with some specific pointers for tools that can offer this degree of technical metatda extraction?

David
