I'm currently in the process of doing a big clean up on my server, and downloaded the DROID software to help do this. I was hoping that the software would generate some HASH numbers so I can recognise duplicates - but it hasn't.
Is there something I've missed? Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

Hi Heather,

Droid isn't automatically set up to run checksums.  You can go into preferences and choose to run them.  [Tools menu, preferences, choose run checksums]

While I love DROID for identifying file formats and running useful reports, if your main goal is to identify duplicates I prefer to use Hash My Files.  It has the ability to run multiple checksum values at one time, color codes duplicate files, will allow you to delete duplicates from within the program, and also pulls out similar technical metadata as DROID.

There are guides for both programs here: https://www.lib.umn.edu/dp/guides

Hope this helps.

Best,
Carol

Hello! I know this is a very old thread, but I was wondering if you have an url on guides for both programs and also one for downloading? Since that url doesnt exist anymore.
