Hello,

I was wondering if anyone in the community was successful using DROID on KryoFlux bitstream files. We tried DROID and FITS, but in both cases KryoFlux raw stream files are identified as raster images.

PRONOM does have KryoFlux 2 and 2.2 listed in the registry.

Thanks,

Hi Maryna,

Do you have access to a Hex Editor, such as HXD: https://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/ ?

I'd be interested to see what an affected file looks like in a hex editor. I'm surprised it has any clashes with raster images, so I'm very curious as to what is happening.

Oh I see, it's picking up various image formats because of the .raw extension, but not getting the Kryoflux ID because it's a later version than the two versions already in PRONOM - this appears to be version 3.00.

Does the attached signature file correctly identify your files? It's a test signature that should only identify KryoFlux v3.00. If so then we can probably put a submission together for the PRONOM team to consider.

  • To add a custom signature to DROID: Tools > Install Signature File, browse and select the signature file from your file system.
  • Next, double-check that this is now the default: Tools > Preferences > Binary Signature File should be the new Kryoflux signature file - if it isn't it should be found at the bottom of the dropdown list.
  • Click OK to confirm any changes.
  • After making any changes to DROID preferences it is important to choose 'New' to create a new profile with your changes intact.
  • You're now ready to scan the files.
  • When you're finished, Tools > Preferences > Binary Signature File, to choose the current v118 signature file again, once more remembering to click New to create a new profile.

Hi David,

Yes, the signature file you sent identifies KryoFlux stream files correctly.

I'd be happy to put together a submission to the PRONOM team. Shall we move the conversation off the forum?

Thank you,
Maryna

Great, glad it works!

Please do go ahead with the submission, which you can put forward directly through pro...@nationalarchives.gov.uk or by creating a github issue: https://github.com/digital-preservation/PRONOM_Research/issues/new/choose

The identification signature details the PRONOM team will need are:
Description: BOF, offset 60, KryoFlux DiskSystem, version=3.00s
Signature:
BOF, offset 60, maximum offset 0: 4B72796F466C7578204469736B53797374656D2C2076657273696F6E3D332E303073
