don't know whats worse broke or running away no problems..........until I upgraded 3 family pc the first upgrade could see the drobo but went dark while i upgraded the other two to windows 10 (free right)  

should have known .............cannot connect  at all ....gotta go find me a non win 10 pc to get to my drobo/share

so what makes synology so much safer?

My drobo pro sits dead on a shelf after it suffered a drive failure mid-rebuild from a previous drive failure... Even with dual drive protection enabled... I loathe my drobo pro as the array sits with a bunch of valuable family pictures that were in process of being backed up to AWS but never made it... It really was the perfect failure storm...

Synology (and probably any other non Drobo appliance) enables you to take your disks load it to a regular server (linux or windows) and with free software you can read your data.

In the drobo case you need to beg Drobo support to help you save your data - and most cases they'll just laugh at you...
