The Caledonian Sleeper (aka the sleeper train to Scotland) is one of two main sleeper trains in the UK and runs six nights a week from London Euston to Scotland and vice versa, offering different services on the Highlander and Lowlander routes:

The Caledonian Sleeper is a sleeper train that takes you to Scotland. From the Highlander Route, departing from Aberdeen, Inverness or Fort William, to the popular Lowlander Route, which leaves from either Edinburgh or Glasgow, Caledonian Sleeper makes it smooth and hassle-free.

We'll be honest - booking sleeper tickets on Trainline isn't as straightforward as booking normal tickets. But if you follow these instructions closely, you'll be able to find a variety of fares for sleeper trains, from single seats to cabins.

Booking a sleeper train to Scotland on Trainline is a bit trickier than other services. It's by no means impossible though, you've just got to pay a bit more attention than usual. Here's a step-by-step guide:

This applies to the Caledonian Sleeper and Night Riviera services. We're working on integrating sleeper trains into our booking system in a more user-friendly way, so watch this space. But follow these instructions and you should very quickly be on your way!

Travelling in First Class with the Caledonian Sleeper is a great way of reclining and enjoying the passing scenery as you head to your destination. You can find First Class options on special trains leaving at night and all First Class tickets come with a sleeping berth (room) for comfort and privacy.

So, what do you get when you upgrade to First Class? First of all, a First Class ticket grants you access to the First Class lounges at Aberdeen, Edinburgh Waverley, Glasgow Central, Inverness and London Euston. Caledonian Sleeper offers complimentary breakfasts, sleeping packs, and an in-room washbasin and towel. The room itself is spacious and has everything you need, from coat hangers to storage units, so all you need to think about is what lies ahead on your trip.

You can buy your Caledonian Sleeper ticket from our Advanced Search Journey Planner. Simply enter where you're travelling to and from, select a departure time in the evening and one of the available types of accommodation. We'll show you the cheapest seated fares by default.

The Caledonian Sleeper is a sleeper train service which operates a number of routes which link London with cities in Scotland, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, and Aberdeen. Services run both ways six days a week, with the exception of Saturdays.

Previously there were three options for travel, a sleeper seat, standard sleeper room and first class sleeper room. None of these were en-suite or offered a double room, and there was no WiFi or proper power outlets (although there were USB outlets).

The new trains are far more luxurious, with upgraded sleeper seats as well as en-suite sleeper rooms and even a double en-suite room option for couples. There are also fully accessible rooms, as well as WiFi throughout.

As well as all the amenities included in the standard sleeper room, including WiFi and power points, you also get access to the station lounges at departure and arrival stations, as well as a free hot or continental breakfast, which you can enjoy either in your room or in the Club Car.

In Edinburgh, which was where we started our journey, the train is available for boarding from 11pm, and the train itself departs at 23.40. We were lucky to have been given first class tickets, so we got on board in plenty of time to take advantage of everything the train had to offer.

A number of stations offer Caledonian Sleeper passengers the option to shower either on departure or arrival. This is free for travellers in the Caledonian Double or Club Room, while there is a small fee for standard sleeper and sleeper seat passengers.

I was booked on the 21,43 sleeper from Aberdeen to Euston on Friday 29th October, this was cancelled and I had to get the Cross County to Edinburg at 21.35. On arrival at Edinburgh I had to sit in a waiting room, which was not very warm until 3am. The sleeper train arrived in London over two hours late. The cost for this leg of the journey was 128,70. I told that I could claim a refund. Let me know if you require any further proof of my journey.

Having travelled on the Caledonian sleeper train before its updates many years ago, I was excited to see the changes that had been made to improve the overall experience. The updates included new carriages with improved facilities, including private cabins with en-suite bathrooms ad charging points, a new lounge car, and upgraded dining options.

Operating every night except Saturday, the Caledonian Sleeper train departs from London and arrives in Scotland in time for breakfast. You can see the full Caledonian sleeper timetable here.

On top of the amenities given with the standard sleeper room, Caledonian Sleeper first class rooms (the Club Room and the Caledonian Double) come with a free washbag and toiletry kit, chocolates and your breakfast included in the price of your ticket.

The sleeper train London to Edinburgh takes about 7.5 hours and this is roughly the same for the London to Glasgow sleeper train. Getting from London to Inverness takes around 11 hours and from London to Fort William is around 13 hours.

With the new refurbishments to the Caledonian Sleeper, you can now get WiFi in your room as well as throughout the train on the sleeper train to London. Hi, Unfortunately the rules in Britain for a night sleeper are that your ticket needs to be valid on the day of arrival and is thus an exception to our regular rule for night trains. That will not change despite the fact that we have tried many times. I hope this clarifies the situation. Cheers,

Interesting. This does mean though that the app activates the incorrect day for sleeper trains in Great Britain. I just tested this: it activates the day of departure. Also, the page that explains the travel day does not explain this exception for Great Britain. So many Interrail/Eurail users will probably not know about this and even if they do, they won't be able to activate the day of arrival if they have a mobile pass.

Marion is no longer a Eurail representative but this issue still exists with the mobile pass not conforming to the same rule as the UK sleepers, I have posted a reply in your other topic on this subject.

Our friends at Caledonian Sleeper have very kindly donated two sets of two return Club Room tickets for us to us to raffle, with all proceeds going directly to Give a Dog a Bone to help us to tackle loneliness for older adults through animal companionship and friendship.
