Pinnacle Studio is a video editing program originally developed by Pinnacle Systems as consumer-level software. Upon Pinnacle System's acquisition of Munich-based FAST Multimedia,[1] Pinnacle integrated the professional code base of FAST's editing software, (since re-branded as Pinnacle Liquid) beginning with Pinnacle Studio version 10. It was acquired by Avid and later by Corel in July 2012.[2] Pinnacle Studio allows users to author video content in Video CD, DVD-Video, AVCHD or Blu-ray format, add complementary menus and burn them to disc.

Creation of slideshow videos is a snap with Studio Plus 10. A click on the Camera tab shows an album of pictures on your hard drive. For a quick fix, select one or more pictures and drag them onto the timeline. Studio Plus 10 automatically scales the images to fit the video screen, compensating for both portrait and landscape pictures. Double-clicking brings up the Clip Properties tool where you can rotate images in 90-degree increments and correct red-eye.

DVD authoring is available with the Make Movie tab. With another library of pre-built styles, a pro look is just a couple mouse clicks away. The interface shows how much time is available on your disc and clicking the Create Disc button finishes the process. Speaking of DVDs, the Instant DVD Recorder really works this time around, recording and finishing a disc in almost real-time.

So here we are at Pinnacle Studio 26 and with this newest update we have gone through a period of stabilization followed by modernization and we are now at a point of an almost total reworking of the program.

I loved your review of Studio 26. Normally, a new version is released at the end of every summer, but it has been mighty quiet on the pinnacle channels. Should I be worried that Studio 26 is the end of the line?

Truly enjoyed you review of Pinnacle 26. I started out with Pinnacle Studio version 9. A few upgrades along the way and now at version 25. So far it is great. And I use a computer with higher than needed specifications. I do struggle with the user interface as it can frustrating when I get various different windows open and not able to get the interface back to the original setup appearance. Not a whole lot of info available on dealing with the interface. I often get the editor window into a different area on the computer screen and do not have a clue on getting it back where I am used to seeing it?

Hi Bill,
Yeah that complexity in the interface comes from its origins way back in the mists of time!
At that time Pinnacle was the first program aimed at the consumer but having no other software to draw from as a reference they pretty much went with the professional programs of the day like Avid.
In turn those program got their design viewpoint from actual film editors being forced to come across to digital.
I have had Pinnacle on my computer for many years and I have to admit I have only touched the surface when it comes to what it really can do.

Reset Interface in Pinnacle Studio

Hi Ralph,
I have taken a look around the usual places and there seems to be no word of Pinnacle Studio 27 on the horizon.
That in itself means pretty much nothing!
The usual times for an update from Corel in the past have been May, April and August of that year.
Given that we are now in August and have passed the other two I tend to think that 27 will be released very soon.
My advice would be to hold off at least until the end of August to see what happens.
As far as updating from 21 to 27 goes I think it would be prudent to go for it with this next release as you are starting to drop out of the development picture not just with Pinnacle itself but with software, codec and hardware changes.

Hi Tim,
OK you got me with this one!
Usually project files will behave reasonably well going back five or six version or so with most software.
However in your case I think it is going to be a bit of a crap shoot going back to version 12!
Unfortunately I think you are going to have to just bite the bullet and see what happens.
The other thing to keep in mind is that Pinnacle does NOT overwrite previous versions when you upgrade.
Each version exists as a standalone version so even if 23 cannot open the projects you can still have 12 there as a backup.

Earlier in this year I purchased Pinnacle 22 but it would not let me import from my Panasonic 4K camera. I then had to upgrade my PC After much communication with Corel the problem was not solved. I asked and received a full refund for the product. I have previously used and was very satisfied with Pinnacle 19 before I bought my 4K. I am in communication once more with Corel but I cannot get an answer. Before I purchase will pinnacle 23 ultimate edit 4K .

Fortunately for Pinnacle, Studio's editing tools make up for lost time. Studio 8.0 adds two new editing views, accessible from icons on the top of the Timeline view or as menu selections in the View menu. There's a Storyboard view, with icons arranged in a grid from top to bottom and transitions marked as symbols between icons, and a Traditional Cut list, which is a text description of each edit listed one cut after another. The Storyboard view works especially well for quickly assembling a rough cut of your video, then using the Timeline view to refine your edits.

Burn me, baby
In addition to smooth editing tools, Studio 8.0 now supports DVD authoring and, when used on a system with a DVD or CD-ROM burner, DVD and VideoCD burning. Similar to the DVD-authoring tools offered by Dazzle DVD Complete and Sonic Solutions MyDVD, Studio 8.0 uses 27 preset menu designs, which contain elements such as buttons and moving backgrounds that you can modify using the new Title Editor window. You can also create opening credits and name titles to play over your video. Just drag and drop to modify transitions or titles. For example, dragging a left-to-right Push transition to the beginning of the clip moves the title into position from left to right.

Most impressive, Studio 8.0 can create chapter settings within the timeline as you edit, so you can go straight to a specific point in your video from the menu. Move the Timeline Scrubber to the section of your video where you want a chapter setting, then right-click your mouse and select Insert Chapter Marker. Voilà ! Studio 8.0 automatically places a small chapter marker in the timeline and adds a button to your DVD menu bearing an image of the spot where you placed the marker--a huge time-saver when creating a DVD menu from your video material.

The problem with Adobe is using downloaded clips, or movies you compressed yourself, to save space. Premiere and After Effects are just not designed to edit compressed video like mpeg, divx, etc. You get to many errors and glitches. You have to convert them to some DV format that ends up being several gigs each.

I updated the drivers because the ones from the vendor, MSI, didn't work with hardware acceleration in Pinnacle Studio either, so I thought I would give the latest drivers a go, particularly the studio driver from NVidia rather than the gaming driver which was supplied.

2- Provide detailed step-by-step replication instructions to try to test this in our lab and if possible some screenshots or a short video showing the behavior. Could you please also share with us a project sample for testing?
