ISO  older, calm and patient Fjord pair/team bomb proof and beginner safe. Must be able to stand quietly for older woman to harness and patiently for her to hitch. Want something in the

13 hd to 14 hd range as I am short. I have single and pair experience. I sold my mule team last year to down size to something smaller.  I want to be able to hitch to a forecart and drag a 4ft x 6ft chain harrow to remove weed seedlings, smooth the dirt and refresh the community horse trail that runs in front of the ranch. No hard team work. I want them to mostly walk pulling a CDE marathon carriage and a 2 seat surrey. To go out on trail and backcountry roads and maybe do things at church or a small hometown parade. Here in southern CA we walk in the street, next to the street and on the trail. We only trot in the arena or out on dirt roads as we need to be wary of vehicles and bicycles and horseback riders. We live on a 25 ac ranch in an equestrian development with much more driving opportunities than in the suburban or urban areas. We have over 30 miles of horse trail and about the same in dirt roads. We have a large barn with porches and wings off the sides over the run out stalls, so there are no hot stalls in the barn and it never goes over 85 degrees even in triple digits. We also have 1 ac paddocks with covers so there is always shade and protection from rain. Want something calm and laid back rather I drive them twice a week or twice a month. Would be a great retirement home for an older pair that could be used on the forecart as well as the carriages. Willing to consider horses 15 ys to 24 yrs old. Skill set and experience more important than sex. Not interested in breeding or young horses with little or no experience. There’s a pair out there somewhere that would like to get out of the rain and snow, I just haven’t found them yet. Shipping to CA is not an issue as we have herd members from WV, TN, AR and even Canada. I try to find a perfect fit as most animals never leave. I only sold my mule team because they were only 15 yrs old and it wasn’t fair to them to stand around for another 15 to 20 yrs. So if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much, Trish tucalota...@gmail.com

Hi Trish-
Best wishes in your search, but why limit yourself to Fjords?  Fjords are nice, but there are other nice large pony breeds, such as Haflingers, smaller Welsh cobs, gypsy vanners, even Fell ponies or grade crosses.  Let us know what you find!

Thanks Catherine and Helen. Catherine I would be open to Haflingers if they were VERY calm. I did try out a pair for a month last fall and they were just too hyper. Most of the "modern" ones have way more energy than I want or need. I don't want anything with heavily feathered legs like the Gypsys or Fell ponies. We have a lot of red clay soil around here which would make feathers a nightmare to keep clean. And while feathered breeds are great in arena out here on trail their feathers pick up stickers and foxtails. I like Welsh ponies a lot and I have been looking but haven't found anything older with lots of driving experience.  It's more important for me to find the right pair for me than a certain breed. I would prefer Fjords because they are short and stocky and most have a very calm personal demenor. But like I said the right pair is much more important. Helen I did try to post on FB but I am not very good at it. I thought I did everything right but it never posted. So I will try again. If anyone has any leads on a bomb proof, laid back, calm and kinda on the lazy side pair please let me know. I know a lot of these horses and ponies get sold by word of mouth and never hit the internet which is why I am trying to post to websites and on social media to reach out to the driving community. Thanks so much, Trish

Hi Trish-
You might contact Martha at Cohutta Stables:  cohutta...@tds.net
They are located in northern GA, but worth the travel.  I bought the best horse in the world from them, at a decent price.  They are good horse people, know everybody, and you can trust them.  I am sure they can find exactly what you are looking for, if you give them a little time.
