Meeting to address prescription abuse
Recently, The Blade ran a story about a doctor who was sentenced for
illegally prescribing drugs that led to addiction.
Prescription abuse has become a major concern for our community. To
help address that concern, COMPASS will hold a conference Jan. 29
titled "Prescription Medications: the Cure or the Habit?"
Everyone needs to be aware of what prescriptions are in their home and
who has access to them. This is an easy place for youth or visitors to
steal a prescription drug meant for another. Illegal sales of these
drugs on the street are at record levels.
Education for the medical community and awareness by patients are
needed so that everyone is fully aware of the ramifications of a
prescribed drug if not taken properly.
