Hello Waterkeepers -

It was a great conversation last night for those who were there, thank
you. Here is a brief outline of what we covered:

The overall project is about taking care of our water supply by
sponsoring an unused drug drop off day. These unused drugs will be
properly incinerated rather than flushed into the water. A further
outcome of the project is to further local interfaith communion via
environmental action.

Marc will look into the possibility of grant funding and investigate
police interest in supporting the project.

Brittney will explore pharmacist connections.

Bob will investigate which tree may be the best contributor to a
greener toledo area as it relates to the water supply as a potential
gift to participants.

Greg will look into the possibility of using the hospital incinerator.

I connected with Vicky of the Superior Watershed Partnership in the UP
this morning and she had alot of helpful information to share about
their successful clean sweep project. It turns out that the most
expensive part of their effort was in transporting the drugs after
pick up. This was mostly due to their remote location. They needed 2
registered pharmacists at each remote location, and the police were
present because of the potential street value of some of the drugs.

Participants were given an informaitional brochure that gave
directions on how to properly dispose of unused drugs. I like the
idea of doing a drinking gourd podcast on the topic, with interviews
and information as well. We could print up a bunch of CDs and hand
them out to participants as well.

Woody and Judy Trautman have introduced this topic to the NW Ohio
multifaith council. They are waiting for me to get enough information
together to be able to give a presentation to area faith leadership.
If we can get local faith leadership to promote this project to their
congregations, we have the possibilty of making a huge impact.

Thanks for all the efforts, I feel that this could be a really great
thing for our zen/dojo community and the greater toledo community as
well.

Bows,

- Chikyo
