Yesterday Zuihan, Isabella and I participated in the Multifaith
Council of NW Ohio board meeting to inform them of the waterkeepers
project and generate discussion and comment.
To summarize:
The MFC is fully supportive of this effort.
Regina Silletti suggested that we move towards the goal of having a
written proposal that will cover the extent of the project in detail,
and stressed the importance of creating a relationship with the UT
school of pharmacy.
Sudi Pasupuleti was encouraging the involvement of UT youth, perhaps
as a service project.
Joe Zielinski offered several concepts, including creating the clean
up as a quarterly event and staggering the drop off days by region to
lesson the demand on law enforcement officials. Also, Joe suggested
the possibility of me going around to area faith communities and
giving talks on the subject.
Tom Klein asked that we clarify the multifaith aspects of the
project. In response, I offered my vision of interviewing local faith
leadership for a joint video/audio presentation.
Overall, I felt a lot of enthusiasm and support, as well as a
willingness to help in whatever way possible. There was some
discussion of making the focus of next years MFC banquet
environmentalism and its relationship to the various faith traditions
and using that as a launching point for the collection efforts.
Clearly this project is in the exploration phase, but the energy
around it continues to be positive.
