Dear Supporter,
These are exciting times at SOA Watch.
In late June, SOA Watch held its first ever Encuentro in Sanare, Venezuela. The Encuentro brought together representatives of human rights and anti-militarization organizations from nineteen countries in the Western Hemisphere who produced a ten-point statement of agreements. The agreements call upon us to take actions such as vigils in front of foreign military bases in Colombia and Honduras simultaneously with our vigil at Ft. Benning, as well as participation in various conferences in Latin America to deepen our solidarity work with our partners from the South. It is now up to us work with our allies and turn the ideas from the Encuentro into action across the hemisphere.
We need your financial support, however, to make it all happen.
We are already beginning to step up our efforts in Latin America. Two weeks ago, Fr. Roy Bourgeois and several SOA Watch representatives blocked the gate of the Tolemaida Military Base in Colombia, one of seven bases that the U.S. military has been granted access to. We also held a protest outside the U.S. embassy in Colombia, calling upon the United States to withdraw its troops from Latin America. The SOA Watch delegation was met by representatives of Justicia y Paz, the Movement of Victims of State Crimes, the Mothers of Soacha, and SINALTRAINAL. We know that as a movement, we can only flourish if we work side-by-side with our partners in Latin America, and will continue to strengthen our bonds with them.
These efforts depend on your financial support. Please click here to make a generous donation to SOA Watch today.
Thank you for your continued support of our movement. Your donations allow us to deepen our existing relations with our Latin American friends as reach out to new allies as we plan for this year's vigil. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Liz Abanese, Luciana Andrade, Michael Baney, Roy Bourgeois, Lisa Sullivan, Nico Udu-gama, and Hendrik Voss
