Hey everyone,

We are writing to you regarding the new admissions policy changes at DGSOM. In short, we are mobilizing to put more pressure on administrators and show dissatisfaction with a lack of progress and transparency. We need your help as a student/alumni/faculty member for the following action!

Background

Recent admissions policy changes over the past 3 years have been the following:

1.    Raising of GPA (3.4 BCPM) & MCAT (512) requirements for screening applicants

2.    Dissolvement of the “disadvantaged” admissions committee for review of “disadvantaged” applicants (as defined by the AAMC)

3.    Consideration of “disadvantaged” status only after initial screening with GPA/MCAT

More background information, a summary of the Town Hall event, and evidence-based reasoning on why this will harm our disadvantaged students, can be found on the attached “Student DGSOM Admissions Policy Proposal” (4 pgs).

APOC and FEC

The Admissions Policy and Oversight Committee (APOC) is led by officers Dr. Michael Yeh, Dr. Marie Elena Stark, and Dr. Janet Pregler and consists of various other faculty. The Faculty Executive Committee (FEC) approves recommendations that AOPC puts forth.

·  APOC: https://medschool.ucla.edu/fec-the-admissions-oversight-and-policy-committee

·  FEC: https://medschool.ucla.edu/fec-members

Goal: Flood their inboxes

One part of our mobilization is to show the AOPC and FEC that their perception of a “silent majority” that agrees with these new policy changes is wrong! Right now our move is less about content and more about showing our numbers and dissatisfaction around these exclusionary metrics.

Action

·  Send the email template below, with minimal changes, to the AOPC/FEC addresses below using your mednet or official work email.

·  The email blast is scheduled to start THIS THURSDAY JAN 17th at 7:30 AM through FRIDAY JAN 18th 11:00PM. We will send you a reminder email the night before.

·  Please share this email message with current students or alumni that would be willing to participate. But, we ask that you do not post on large groups or chats about this email.

·  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact: dgsompolicy...@gmail.com

·  If you’d like to stay updated, or be more involved in organizing, please add your email address to our growing listserv: https://goo.gl/forms/IF7iWYd9vO6uKg3x1

Sincerely,
