Dear Drewins,
Hope all of you are doing well! It is warming up in Chicago now. Minerva and I are doing just dandy.
Just wanted to give you a gentle reminder about filing your tax return. Remember that when you file, your deductions would include the standardized deduction, your exemption status (usually one when you filed your W4), and any interest you paid on your loans so far (you can get this form from your FedLoan account).
On top of that, you should have your BRUINBILL for last year and your 1098T ready to provide evidence that you paid tuition for 2017. This tax credit can be up to $2000.
For first time filers, just bring all of that (W2, Bruinbill, 1098T, student interest loan statement 1098E, health insurance proof from UCLA and your residency) to HR Block and let them handle it, takes about 30 minutes. Or if you are an experience filer, go maximize that return. Feel free to respond if I missed anything.
Happy Lunar New Year!
All the best,
Hoover
