Hey everyone,

So as you know, we have to change our welcome back event because stu.activities is having an event and we just had access to EMS.

How about Tuesday the 18th ? or do you have any other suggestions. Also how does Tuesdays at 400 or 430 work for a weekly meeting for everyone? Let me know!

That sounds good! And then the week after we could have a members meeting to see maybe if anyone wanted to see something specific done on campus? Also I was talking to nadia about this and we both feel like we should really try to get the muslims involved and create like a connection between us all because we're all pretty separated

Hey Everyone,

Ok.. So I made all the bookings but had to change some things around..mostly because EMS is stupid and wouldn't let me book anything within the next 10 days pretty much .. So here is the list of events.. 

1- September 25th- First General Board Meeting and Halaqa 

• Topics: I think a good topic would be to talk about the recent developments surrounding this whole outlash against the trailer made about Prophet Muhammad SAW... I think it would be good to talk about what he would do if he was still alive and if the reaction of the Muslims all around the world is appropriate. (I'll email Reza to see if he can come and conduct this) 

2. October 2nd - MSA United for Africa Fundraiser (Our original idea to fund-raise for MSA United will have to be on this day)

3. Eid Al Adha dinner will be Nov.8th because Nov.1st already has people in Crawford Hall.

Our next EBOARD Meeting will be this Tuesday Sept. 18th at 4pm at the UC so we can talk about everything and get things going! Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions

What seminar? The one on tuesday? I interned at cair ny and I can definitely bring someone, either cyrus or muneer awad, but I didn't know we were..I don't remember us all mentioning/or agreeing with that on tuesday during our meeting lol.

I think it's too late to invite someone to come speak, especially since there is no form of advertising or agenda for the event at this point, which is really last minute. If no one from Cair can come in why don't we push this event back since nothing is actually planned besides the room booking. We could have a social and invite people interested to come and meet one another, and maybe do some ice breaking activities, and have pizza or snacks. I just think it's important for us to try to strengthen our community on campus, since it has definitely been really weak in the past few years. I also think we really need to be all on board when it comes to creating, and planning events since we weren't this past meeting,  and we didn't end on a note with a detailed event planned.

I requested an lpo form of 50 for stop & shop snacks and ill request about 30 or 40 for pizza and let's do a meet & greet and all just hangout.

hey everyone,

that's my bad.. Salma had texted me later on Tuesday and I got so caught up I forgot to mention it or even email everyone. It is a great idea, but I do agree that maybe we should have them come for another event and just have this one focused on campus. In terms of the topic, I thought we all agreed to talk about the Prophet and the recent events. Another development yesterday is that a French magazine drew caricactures so I do think it's still relevant. but if you guys want to do Islamophobia, we can too. 

DETAILS OF THE EVENT AS DECIDED ON TUESDAY:

-Event: MSA General Board Meeting/ Halaqa (or whatever you want to call it that's more creative)

-Time and Place: EC 145 at 430pm 

-What are we having: snacks and drinks from Stop and Shop

-Topic: welcome to MSA and overview of the work we do, gauge interests and what people would like to see us do

-Topic of Halaqa: Either Islamophobia or Recent events about Prophet (you guys can decide or we can take a vote, it doesn't matter to me)

Roles:

-Wajiha: email and community forum (OR I can do it if she cannot)

-Salma: Facebook and Flyer (If we want a flyer)

-Noran: LPO and snacks 

Finally, Reza emailed back and said he's traveling to Brussels that evening so he can't be here.

 Let me know if there are any question/concerns

yea. I think the intention for this event was to make it a much more informal, relaxed setting. get to know everyone and have a discussion on recent events and from then on. We can also even have a survey to see what other kinds of topics people would like us to have in future halaqas and work from there on getting speakers and such.

Up to you guys, if you'd rather get pizza we can do that..although with our $50 limit we won't be able to get much + drinks. I like pizza though so whatever you guys wanna do

I think reaching out to FDU Would be really awesome in general! I know about 3 Muslims there from my previous semester. If we plan something maybe we can let them know? I also know that FDU has less rules and regulations so we can always post flyers there if we like.


Also something to look into is "1001 inventions from the Golden Age" is an exhibition that was in NYC last year that goes through all of muslim history and touches on all the impacts islam has had on Science and Technology. (did MESA go to this one?) from now until February it's in DC. It's $6 for students and groups, so maybe we can look into going a weekend?
