Wehave a client that uses a Fujitsu fi-7480 for scanning with Scan Connect and TWAIN. They upgraded to Win 11 recently. Sometime after the Win 11 upgrade - that is, not immediately - the TWAIN driver became nonresponsive.
The issue with the Laserfiche Windows client (10.2) was that the scan window would never load. The scanning default was Twain, but it would never get past the Twain scanner set up dialog box. It would just sit there frozen.
The remedy was to remove the Scanner settings value in the user's attribute. Then the Scanner Source dialog appeared when we hit Scanning, defaulting to Universal Capture. We were able to select Scan Connect and that worked without issue for the client.
My ScanSnap has basically become useless in recent weeks and I can't figure out why. I have tried TWO different windows 10 machines, and neither will recognize the scanner. I have uninstalled and reinstalled on both computers. Updated software and drivers. Windows 10 just won't recognize the scanner, as I never see it in the device manager. I also press the scan button and it blinks 4 times and never runs the paper through. The ScanSnap manager icon is always greyed out too.
Weird - might be related to a windows update, as you suggested. Can not test it now since I do most of my work on my Mac these days. The Win10-machine is up to date regarding backups, but I only use it when I need to. Maybe I can come back on this when I use it next time, and will try to connect to the ix500 then.
Windows 10 never has recognised the scanner because Fujitsu use their own proprietary handshake connection and not the typical windows universal scan drivers. I've never had mine show up in the system devices list.
I've also found the connection to be "flaky" over the past few weeks. The system will regularly hang mid scan advising it's receiving document, but eventually timing out. Strangely this seems to be when I have it on a wired connection. I find that on WiFi and with the USB cable connected it seems to figure itself out.
I'm sort of gutted to be saying it, but the most robust operation at present is to use the scanner over WiFi to the mobile scansnap app, in my case on iOS and then forward it to my Evernote account. It shouldn't be the case, but this is presently the fastest and most reliable way of using the scanner.
But I had a connection issue on my Mac some weeks ago as well. In the end I solved it by completely erasing any software from Fujitsu from the Mac, reinstall and set it up from scratch again. Since then it worked again. But I do not think this is related, because Mac and Windows are very different OSes, and use different Scansnap clients.
You can scan for driver updates automatically and install them manually with the free version of the Fujitsu Scanner Driver Update Utility, or complete all necessary driver updates automatically using the premium version.
Click the Update button next to your driver. The correct version will be downloaded and installed automatically. Or, you can click the Update All button at the bottom to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out-of-date on your system.
To find the latest driver, including Windows 11 drivers, choose from our list of most popular Fujitsu Scanner downloads or search our driver archive for the driver that fits your specific Fujitsu scanner model and your PC's operating system.
After downloading your driver update, you will need to install it. Driver updates come in a variety of file formats with different file extensions. For example, you may have downloaded an EXE, INF, ZIP, or SYS file. Each file type has a slightly different installation procedure to follow. Visit our Driver Support Page to watch helpful step-by-step videos on how to install drivers based on their file extension.
OK, that should be fine. Usually Fujitsu scanners work with USB redirection, but if not you can disable USB Redirection for the device, and try enabling SANE redirection to use the Scanner redirection built into Horizon, but the device has to have a locally supported driver in the OS
So just to follow up in case this helps anyone, the logon/logoff issue I think was a coincidence. However the reason the scanner never worked for the end user was that there was a policy in UEM preventing USB redirection for everyone but admin users. After modifying that policy the scanner works just fine for her.
@member you mean UEM > User Environment > Horizon Smart Policies? Because I am having a issue with USB redirection in general. USB redirection with Direct Connect to the vm works like a charm but from the moment we go threw the connection server we get no suitable devices. USB redirection is enabled on the connection server and no UEM smart policies.
Looking for drivers for the Fujitsu fi-6140Z Document Scanner? I was fortunate to find the TWAIN32 Drivers that support the listed Operating Systems from Microsoft. Since I manage 600 Dell computers running XP, Vista, 7, 8.1, and 10, and 4 different models of Fujitsu scanners, I make sure to use the same Windows 7 drivers so that I can rule out issues when I need to troubleshoot the computers or move from one machine to the next. I have tried updated drivers and saw issues on Windows 8 and 10 so I went back to the old Windows 7 drivers.
Now that the Windows 7 drivers I linked above to are installed and the computer system restarted, connect the data cable to the scanner and computer then the power cord to the scanner and outlet and power on the scanner so that the OS can detect the new hardware.
For easy scanning daily, navigate to the Control Panel and right-click on the scanner in the Devices and Printers section, and choose to create a desktop shortcut. It will do so on the Desktop of the logged-in account. Rename the shortcut and move it to the Public Desktop folder with an Administrator account so all logged-in users will see the scanner, not just you then do a test scan with your scanning software.
I called Mr Cool yesterday. Spoke with a tech support agent. I didn't get much more info than what is in the brochures. I asked specifically about the BTU modulation on these units. The rep assured me that the condenser does in fact modulate variably however he was unsure of the Min. modulation. I was also curious if the air handler would adjust cfm based on btu output? He did state that is does not communicate with the condenser, so no. Also asked the preferred method for line set, he said the pre charged, no vacuum linsets is best but You can use your own line set and flare and vacuum.
He also said that these are so new that they are still figuring out some of the particulars, But I would think they should have a bit more data available considering the price point. I did ask how many units have actually been sold to date? Best he could tell me is that he typically gets 2 install support calls a week.
I will continue to look into this but need to pull the trigger soon as summer is rapidly approaching. On paper this looks like a great solution for me but just wanted a little more info.
Warranty seems good. 10years. I did ask if it is extended to homeowners self installing. And he said in my situation yes, seeing as I have all applicable permits from my village to complete this work as a homeowner.

The indoor unit and outdoor unit do not communicate to achieve modulation but according to him the condensor has some type of sensor that measures temperature and humidity and this in fact controls the btu output. This may be the case with other or all minisplits I'm just not that well versed to speak on it.
Using this with existing ducts since I dont really have the time to revamp my design right now Is also a nice touch. Not the best for efficiency but it gets me closer to net zero right now rather that waiting till I have time to actually get new ducts installed.
My hangup was the brand itself but as bfw577 has stated it is in fact a rebadged midea. Midea seems to have a good market presence. Some could argue whether midea is a top tier brand such as Mitsubishi or fujitsu but they make a fair amount of units so the from the engineering side one would assume it's a decent product.
If and when I pull the trigger I'll try to report back.
Midea are solid units. Carrier is putting their name one them. My Midea Premier came in a Carrier/Midea North America box from GA. It had both Carrier and Midea stickers in the box to put on the unit.
I looked at the installation manual in the link I posted above and the instructions call for a 5 wire communication line between the indoor and outdoor units. They are definitely communicating with each other.
I didnt see that. I'm also guilty of not reading it thoroughly. This is what the rep told me. They are not really 100% on anything with this unit. One rep told me they had just did the product launch then everyone started working at home so they never had any formal training.
" The air handler has only one speed available at a time. Any change must be done by settings internally in the air handler. The condenser has an electronic control board which monitors several different temperature sensors and adjusts the variable speed compressor to handle the load it is under."
I am looking forward to your experience in the diy install of this unit as I want to replace my 2 ton, 20 year old Rheem Heat Pump as a diy. What is bugging me is reliability, parts and warranty as homeowner install.
Thanks for sharing your experiences and I look forward to updates.
I reached out to my engineer to run some numbers on replacing at least my return side ducts for now. The truck is 12x8 rectangular but the branch line are simply a few joist bays with sheet metal nailed underneath.
Im sure its not the best setup as far as efficiency and im also sick of all the crap that falls in the return side from the plaster walls. Im going to be using spiral ducts for either the branch lines or the entire return side.
