Battlefield 1942 (also known as BF1942) is the first installment in the Battlefield series and was developed by DICE. It was released for PC in 2002 and was later made the AIAS and IGN Game of the Year. To celebrate the game's ten year anniversary, it was made available for free on Origin in November 2012.
Official servers were shut down on June 30, 2014, during the mass GameSpy server closure by Glu Mobile that occurred that day. However, like all PC Battlefield titles affected by the shutdown, the game can still be played online through the Gameranger service. Battlefield 1942 can also be played online through the usage of a community made replacement master server.[1]
Battlefield 1942 is set during World War II in the Pacific, European and Northern African theaters. Its gameplay has a more cooperative focus than previous games in the first person shooter genre, as it is not only important to kill the opposition but to also hold certain "control points" around the map while playing a multitude of classes each equipped for special roles.
Capturing control points allow the team to reinforce themselves by enabling players and vehicles to spawn in the vicinity of the control point. Consequently, capturing and controlling these points also will reduce enemy reinforcements. Battlefield 1942 was one of the first mainstream games to represent a dramatic shift in FPS gameplay mentality by not only favoring individualism but simultaneously encouraging teamwork and coordination.
Battlefield 1942: The Road To Rome was released in February 2003. It added the Italian Front to the game, featuring the respective factions as well as weapons on maps based on the real battles themselves.
Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII was released in September 2003. It added many new weapons and vehicles that were both prototypes and experimental during the war. The purpose of the expansions was to add a large amount of content without overhauling the series. It was also featured with numerous patches that added more maps.
Battlefield 1942 was built around concepts introduced in Codename Eagle which was developed by Refractor Games which DICE had acquired in 2000. 1942 utilizes the Refractor Engine with its successor, the Refractor 2 Engine, used in the development of Battlefield 2.
installed bf1942 version died. I tried copying the whole file structure to a another computer but when joining a game, I get a CD error? I didn't think about copying the registry!..... Anyone got any ideas about how to get this working on a new computer?
Happily I was able to download it again from Origin since it was in my past purchases list! I then got Bf1942 to run after installing that last patch that replaces the Gamespy server list and setting Win98 compatibility mode.
EDIT: Nevermind! Success! Turns out the program does work as I expected, I just booted a wrong snapshot. I now probably have the first full true portable version of bf1942 in the world. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Does that Cameyo virtualization impact performance? Anyway, I've managed with a very simple fix to make BF1942 not show the Invalid CD-key error message without any BF1942 registry entries, making it portable. I've tested in a local server and in SiMPLE server with two computers and seemed to work okay. I will upload modified BF1942.exe if you're interested.
Updated BF1942 portable executable. Now, it works also with Road to Rome and Secret Weapons. With this executable inside, you copy your BF1942 folder and can play it in any computer, from a USB drive, for example. However, it may crash the game in Wiindows Vista and above, because you probably have no administrator rights. Mind that, this BF1942 portable executable is just a hack, because it won't exit the game, if it cannot read the registry or there is no BF1942 information in the registry, and your CD-key assigned will be whatever there is in that memory address reserved, most probably the empty string. The right way to make it portable, would be to read the CD-key and game language value from a text file, but that involves some larger changes in executable.
It won't work, unless there is a CD or DVD drive and you are able to modify registry in that computer, because old BF1942 No CD patches, missed some CD drive checks and they have not skipped registry checks in the executable.
It would be funny to play BF 1942 included Mods via a Tablet or Mobile.
I think it needs a tool to converted it from DVD Retail or Origin to Mobile?
Is the any development to actually?
Or is the idea back to the dust bin?
a cool thing were be, if you can play BF1942 via Samsung or Iphone Smartphone , or play via ipad maybe? Phantastic to win players and push the community. Because we dont have to sell shit. We present real old school gaming, without casino gamble off. Free content from free artists. What want the people more?
Do you guys know the CDkey locations for both BF1942 and its two expansions in the registry when playing on windows 7 or windows 10. I believe they change for these later operating systems. Simply I need to know how to manually change the cdkey
So it looks like AMDs forum here is absolute garbage and wont even let you post links (good going guys, making troubleshooting your products even more of a hassle). The solution I found worked for me was downloading the "high definition remaster" mod from modDB for BF1942, I just installed the "dgVoodoo" + "LAA pack (UPDATED PACK)" and that fixed all the issues you've described. For reference I am using both a Ryzen 5900x and an RX 6900xt
The key generated is not a valid one, so you can only play in No key servers, right now. Before you uninstalled your BF1942 game, you could have easily copied your original key from the Windows registry. It's stored there without encryption. Anyway, I will update your keyhash. What was the playername you used?
I recommend you download and install your BF1942 and expansion packs from the torrent links in the first post and then enter your BF1942 CD-key written in the back page of the manual, opening Battlefield 1942_Code.exe in Battlefield 1942\eReg folder. You should not have any problems playing Road to Rome or Secret Weapons maps online.
During my attempt to install the multiplayer patch from bf1942.sk, I got the error message "Setup Cannot Continue! No Battlefield 1942!" after selecting the DIRectory where my game was installed at (C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 1942/)
I also cannot install the RtR and SW expansion packs found on the Battlefield1942f2p website
Does anybody know what registry edits I need to make in order to be able to install the mod into my game DIR? Thanks
Any advice would help. Also I have checked under "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\GAMEDIR\" to make sure that the registry entry of the Game folder matches the actual location folder, both are an exact match.
I Downloaded the v 1.61 gamespy patch from team-simple website. The executable file managed to patch the battlefield1942.exe file in my game folder, but I still couldn't scan for multiplayer servers in game.
I, at one point in the past, managed to download battlefield from battlefield1942f2p.com, which came with a multiplayer server already patched into the installation. I could scan for multiplayer servers from there. But recently, i had to reinstall windows, and am now unable to find any download with the multplayer server patch.

The Good
Battlefield 1942 stands today as one of the hottest games for massive multiplayer LAN gaming, a true gameplay fest based on the simple concept of taking the tried and true class-based fps gaming and enhancing it by making it a truly massive experience thanks to it's 64 players-limit, it's gigantic maps and it's vehicle gameplay.
An Xbox version of Battlefield 1942 was planned, and was also going to support the Xbox Live feature. On January 15, 2003, EA declared that the game was cancelled. The official reason was that they wanted the developers to be able to focus on the expansion Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome instead. However, people speculated that the real reason was that EA felt they couldn't make any big money with a relationship with Microsoft.
