The Dredging Committee has not met for well over a year as we have been unsuccessful at getting access to data from the post-project survey from the last dredging and the engineering survey for next project, and without data to validate and/or revise our projections, there has been very little to talk about.  My take is that we need a change of committee leadership and probably a change of focus for the committee.

I would like to schedule a meeting for the week of September 16th, if possible.  I’d like to have Bion give us a briefing on the status of the next dredging project without unduly taking him away from his wife and family.  Please let me know what days are acceptable for that week and how early you can conveniently attend the meeting.  When I’ve heard from the committee members, I’ll take on scheduling Bion and a room.

I propose the following as a first draft of an agenda:

  1. A briefing from Bion as to the state of harbor dredging projects.
  2. A discussion of how the committee should focus itself to best support the Harbor Department’s dredging program and what we can do to help shepherd dredging funding through the budget process and Town Meeting.
  3. Elect a new chairman, vice-chairman, and secretary (where “-man” is in the German sense of meaning “one” rather than Mann, meaning a male human).

I will be happy to add any additional items that members wish to submit.

On a personal note, after the new leadership is in place I expect to leave the committee, so will not be a candidate for any office.

Andrew, I'm very sorry to hear that.  You were a major asset to the committee.  You will be missed.

You should probably send an email to Cristina (town...@manchester.ma.us) so she can start the ball rolling to replace a vacancy.

Again, thanks for your service.
