Subject: Amazing opportunity for people interested in coding

Hello everyone,

I was contacted by a new organization named Code Progress. They have an amazing and intensive program to create the next generation of progressive coders. You don't need to know coding to be part of the program, they'll teach you. They want to get LGBTQ people, women and people of color to apply. They only have 10 spaces, but if you or someone from the coalition are interested, I can write a recomendation letter. They want the people who get chosen to live in DC for 4 months, they'll give them a $3,000 stipend per month. They will be in a classroom for 3 months and then they will be assigned to work with a progressive organization for 1 month to create an application to help them do their work. This seems to be extremely exciting! Here is the requirements for the program.

We know that applicants bring different strengths to our program, so we don’t expect everyone to embody all of these characteristics. But there are a few things that we think make people a good fit for our program.

The ideal Code for Progress applicant:

  • Wants to use this program as an entry point into the professional social justice movement
  • Has encountered barriers to accessing education, jobs, and resources
  • Likes to solve problems with creative solutions
  • Is good at reading a situation and identifying specific human needs
  • Has patience when working through obstacles
  • Looks for ways to teach and mentor others
  • Is willing to ask for help
  • Likes to figure out how things work
  • Has an idea for a digital tool that can help to address a need in their community or organization
  • Is comfortable using a word processor, email, and web browser
