Could you add an option to position the python console to the top of
the main window and the output window to the bottom?

Console at the top feels more natural to me. Less pressure.

Maybe the history box could be below the editor and grow from bottom to
top rather than top to bottom as it does now. I could very well imagine
that I would personally favour this setup compared to the existing one.
So I am actually +.5 on this I guess.

No, people read from top to bottom so previous outputs come first.
I have never seen a terminal writing from bottom to top.

Me neither, actually when I think about it again, only because it is
technically feasibly does not mean it makes sense from a UI point of
view ...

However, there could be two windows, one for the history and one for the
interpreter. People could then drag them wherever they want -- this
would basically make both preferences work just fine.

Indeed, but again I don't think it will be very useful.

I read a suggestion to let the code box be on the side of the history
box. This can actually be useful if someone types a lot of code and
has a wide screen. If there's enough demand, I may implement this.

As it happens that would suit me quite well. I use Scite in that way
(with an averagely wide screen) and it seems to work ok. For the occasional
time I have long lines coming out (and whose end I need to see) I just
scroll appropriately.

That said, I'm not crying out for it....
