Hello everyone,
I am pretty new to this field.
I am working with selective laser melting (3d printing) alloys. I have performed EBSD on my samples on two orthogonal planes (plane parallel and perpendicular to build direction). one of them has elongated grains and other obviously shows equiaxed grains. now i want to get the reconstruction done with dream3d and want statistics  regarding grain sizes etc. Our target is to create a RVE and use it for crystal plasticity simulations with DAMASK.

I have tried reconstruction using pre build pipeline, but as i am new, i did some mistake with filter values, which led to creating a RVE with lot of missing data, i think everything got masked or removed because of filters.  I will learn more about it. If anyone can share any tips, guidance, specifically how to get stats of grain sizes ( a b c).

Hello and thank you for trying out DREAM3D. From the description I am assuming you are using DREAM.3D Version 6.5.171. Also note that DREAM3D does not really have the direct capability to reconstruct a microstructure in 3D from different orthogonal slices.

Yes, I am using Dream 3D 6.5.171. What I am thinking is to get the  a b c dimensions of the grain from two different .ctf files. From the equiaxed view (TD RD plane) we can get the a and b  dimensions (mostly a=b)  and from the elongated view (BD TD plane) we can get the c dimension of grain. This way i can make two histogram plots, one will be Grain size distribution in the TD-RD plane and second will be  length-width ratio of the columnar grain in the BD-TD plane.
