Hi all,
I have just downloaded DREAM3D. I want to use the software to smoothen my  (2D) EBSD map, and then import it into Abaqus.
Can it smoothen up the GBs, and then import the geometry into Abaqus?

Once you import the geometry into Abaqus, can someone treat the grains individually?

When I worked in the past with Voronoi grains, once you form the individual edges in a grain and mesh the grains. The cae could understand that those grains were individual regions. So, you could name them, calculate strains within each grain etc..

Could something similar be done in this case as well?

I have attached in the email the corresponding EBSD map I am talking about.

Kind regards,

Panos

Hi Panos,

Are you looking to create an explicit 2D triangle mesh from a 2D EBSD map? Unfortunately, there is currently no direct way to mesh a 2D structure in DREAM.3D; we only explicitly support 3D meshing of surfaces. This area is something we've thought about expanding in the past, however. Additionally, there are two filters that can output Abaqus files (one for a solid voxel geometry and one for a surface mesh), but again these are intended for use with 3D volumes. However, I am reasonably sure that the grains are dealt with as separate "regions" for the purposes that Abaqus is concerned with.

Hi Panos,

I'm wondering whether you figure out this problem or not. Because I came across a similar problem.

Thanks,
Yiyu
