Exporting microstructures to DAMASK

What is the current best way to export data from dream3d to damask?   

I'm trying to generate synthetic microstructures in dream3d to use for simulations in damask.  The example pipeline for generating the microstructures covered most of what I needed, but I'm still figuring out how to transfer the resulting microstructure.  I found the Export DAMASK files filter, but it seems damask no longer uses the material.config and .geom file formats that filter writes.

Also, does anyone know if there's a discussion board like this for damask?  I saw someone mention one in a different thread about damask, but I've been unable to find said group/board.

Hi!

I am also trying to generate microstructure with Dream3d and then simulate it in damask. But the error message given by damask is 'error 155. material index out of bounds. More materials requests than found in material.yaml'. I don't know how to modify the dream 3d model,  so could you please share an example of the combination of dream3D and DAMASK.

While there is a DAMASK exporter in DREAM.3D, we are  not the original authors and do not have access to DAMASK itself to debug the error. If you can get some more information from DAMASK we might be able to figure out the issue.

I've had success recently using the damask preprocessing tools to generate the material and geom files necessary for generating damask simulations. The damask tool interprets the dream3d HDF5 output file to obtain data for damask sim files. I'm not certain about the efficacy of this method. Initial damask vti generations of the translated shape (material+geometry) show successful translation images, but the geometry created seems much to large for a reasonable simulation. I don't yet fully understand the relationship between cells, size, material, and scaling methods and how they are translated from dream3d and damask and finally applied in the simulated load case.

Hello, right now I'm doing a research on crystal plasticity using damask. so i have a ebsd file in CTF file. so i want to clean and denoise and so on for the data. then i want to extract the orientation and geometry file from the ctf file. Is there any manual or tutorial for me to use where i could learn about Dream3d. because i have seen the yt video but i still does not understand. and even the documentation in dream3d website is not even complete yet or i think the info was to general and not go to detail.

I am in the same situation as you. I also have a ctf file of ebsd, and I need to create an rve that can be used in damask. Have you found a way? How to remove the boundaries and noise of ebsd and then export the crystal orientation data?

Hello All,

    I am not an active user of DAMASK so I am unfamiliar with its required inputs. If someone could provide a data set and exactly what the expected output from a DREAM3D pipeline should be, I can see about putting a generic pipeline together.

Questions: Are you trying to gather statistics from an EBSD data set and then generate a synthetic microstructure based on the computed EBSD statistics?
